Page 70 of Loving Gabe

“I have dinner set up outside,” I say while gesturing to the balcony.

“You spoil me,” she says and leans up to give me a soft kiss.

“Anything for you,” I tell her and put my hand on her back as we walk to the balcony that’s decked out in lights and surrounded by flowers.

“Wow. It’s beautiful,” she whispers.

I help her take her seat before moving to mine and then gesture for the catering staff to help bring out the first course.

I pulled out all the stops today.

“What’s the special occasion?” she asks, looking confused.

“I don’t need a special occasion to spoil my woman,” I tell her with a wink.

“Okay, just as long as I didn’t miss a birthday, or anniversary of the night we first met,” she says with a smile.

My nerves grow as the dinner continues. I can barely taste anything as I get closer and closer to the moment I have been waiting for.

When dessert arrives, I get up off of my chair and get down on one knee in front of her.

She gasps when she sees me pull out the ring box.

“Gabe,” she whispers.

“Baby, I knew I had wanted you for a long time. When we were snowed in, we finally gave into the feelings we had for each other, and each and every day after that has been a blessing. I love you more than I thought I could ever love another person. You are the light in my life and the one person I will always want by my side. Will you do me the honour of becoming my wife?”

Tears well in her eyes. “Yes, of course I will!” she says before leaning down to kiss me.

I pull back from the kiss to take the ring out of the box and slide it on her finger.

“You just made me the happiest man in the world,” I tell her with a smile.

“I don’t think I have ever been happier,” she whispers against my lips before kissing me again.

I wrap my arms around her and feel like I am the luckiest man alive. I’ll be forever grateful that Aubrey took that shot all those months ago and made a move on me. We wouldn’t be where we are now without her having made that first move to show me just how much I needed her, and was willing to risk to have her in my life. Now, I couldn’t even imagine ever being without her by my side.

Sometimes, the best things are worth waiting for.
