I wished I could tell what he was thinking. His face had gone blank, and his eyes were void of any emotions.

I cleared my throat. “Look, Lincoln is smart. We all know that. Instead of chasing him, we’re here arguing with each other. We’re giving him exactly what he wants. We’re wasting precious time.”

My dad took a few steps forward. “Only a handful of people knew about the wolfsbane pickup. Almost all of them are in this room.”

I pursed my lips and pulled my cell phone out of my back jeans pocket. “Check my phone. I have nothing to hide.”

Dad snatched it out of my hand, held it up so the face ID unlocked it, then gave it to Mikey. “Check it.”

I clenched my jaw, knowing it was better to stay quiet to prove my innocence than to try to convince him of it.

Mikey thumbed through my phone. The scowl on his face grew deeper by the second. He wasn’t going to find what he was looking for. Lincoln and I didn’t need the phone to communicate.

My bond with him and Sloane allowed us to speak freely with our minds. Lincoln and I had never let anyone know just how deep our bond was. Thank goodness.

Dad closed the distance and peered over Mikey’s shoulder. “Anything?”

Mikey growled and threw my phone at me. “No.”

I caught it easily.

My dad ran a hand through his hair as he exhaled loudly. “Good.”

He put a hand on my shoulder. “You know what would happen to you if I found out you were helping that worthless piece of shit, right?”

I held his gaze. “I know.”

Maybe not exactly, but I could imagine. I’d been there when my dad had enforced his wrath. It wasn’t pretty. It resulted in a slow, painful death. The death was the kindest part of the whole thing.

He squeezed my shoulder. I grimaced as his hand shifted into a wolf’s paw, the nails digging into my skin, drawing blood. “If I ever found out that you were helping him, then it would not be pleasant. You would suffer far worse than anyone else ever has.”

Nausea knotted my belly. “I would never betray you, Father.”

A lump formed in my throat. I’d done my best to always avoid directly lying to him, but today, he wasn’t giving me a choice. I had to show my loyalty. My life depended on it.

He dug his nails deeper and twisted. “Then how did he find out about this?”

I winced as he flexed his hand. “I don’t know.”

Mikey rubbed his hands together, his eyes glowing with excitement as he watched.

I blew out a breath. “Dad, I don’t know.”

“Not good enough.”

My chest tightened. Luna help me. He knew.

Think, Sawyer. You can do this.

I grunted as he coiled his paw in the other direction. I had to use what I knew against my dad. Make him question himself instead of me. “How did you know where they were going after the escape? Think about it, Dad.”

He retracted his claws a little, and his eyes narrowed to tiny slits.

I met his gaze and fought against the weight in my chest, threatening to take my breath away. “You had a wiretap put on Sloane’s parents’ phones. Who’s saying Lincoln didn’t do the same to you?”

Dad glanced at Mikey.

Mikey curled his lip. “I had the sheriff double-check when we did it that no one had set one up.”
