I flexed my hands, my wolf bubbling, ready to come out at any second. “You’re going to make me pay? You haven’t done such a great job of it so far.”

If I goaded him, it would keep him away from Sloane and the others. They should be able to handle the two goons inside while I dealt with my brother.

Mikey snarled, making bloody spittle fly out of his mouth. “I’m not done with you yet. I’ll never be done. Don’t you know that’s part of the game? You will suffer for every transgression you’ve made. I’m going to enjoy every second of it.”

I took a step back. Luna, I didn’t know he was that far gone.

“This isn’t a game, Mikey. This is life. People are dying.”

Mikey stalked toward me. “You will too when I’m done with you and your little pet. I’ll kill her first and make you watch, but not before I hurt her in front of you in every way imaginable. She’ll be screaming for death.”

I shook my head and gritted my teeth. I’d never let that happen.

He was sick. Twisted. Worse than our father.

“What happened to you? If Mom saw you—”

“Mom’s not here, thanks to you. Some of us had to grow up without ever knowing her. You were too big of a pussy to stand up for her. If you’d been stronger, she’d still be alive. So would Hannah.”

I ground my teeth. My nostrils flared as I fought to control my anger. He was trying to make me angry so I’d attack. If I knew my brother, he probably had wolfsbane on his person, or something just as bad. I was lucky he hadn’t used it on me yet.

I couldn’t fall for his game. The longer I kept him talking, the longer he wasn’t anywhere near Sloane.

The two wolves with Mikey hadn’t come out of the house yet, which meant that the women, teens, and kids inside were holding their own against them.

I shook my head. “Even if you had grown up with her, I’m not sure it would’ve made a difference. You are clearly out of your mind.”

I could see where my dad was coming from at times, but Mikey was certifiable.

His eyes widened, and flickers of gold filled them as they partially shifted. He bellowed as he barreled toward me.

I ducked out of the way at the last moment, and he went darting past me. I spun on my heel, lunged, and triggered my shift just before I landed on all four paws.

Mikey swung around. I yipped and then attacked. Mikey shrieked and backpedaled, but I was too fast in this form.

I hit him with my full body weight, and we both toppled to the ground.

Mikey shoved at my chest, trying to push me away. I angled my head and clamped down with the full force of my bite on his arm.

Blood coated my tongue and dribbled out of my mouth as I shook my head back and forth. Mikey howled and punched me with his free hand.

I let go of his arm and snapped for his face and neck again. He writhed beneath me, scrambling to keep his jugular out of my jaws.

Mikey cackled as he shoved at me. “Are you going to kill me, Lincoln?”

I snarled at him, trying to get a grip anywhere I could. I was so intent on Mikey that I didn’t see the wolves coming until they were right there.

One of them rammed into me, sending me flying and skittering across the ground. I scrambled for purchase, digging my claws into the earth, and thankfully managed to land on my rear.

I got back to my feet, my hackles rising as I darted my gaze around. My brother still lay on the ground, laughing like a maniac. Three of his friends closed in on me from three different angles.

I curled my lip as I weighed my options. The one on the right seemed to be the leader of this pack. He also had a brownish-red stain on his white coat that had to be blood.

The question was if it was his or not. I said a quick prayer to Luna and then attacked, hoping that he was already injured and I could take him out quickly.

My strike caught him off guard, giving me the upper hand as darted to the side at the last moment and then twisted and lunged at him. I landed on his back. I buried my face into the side of his neck and bit down, chomping at one of his most vulnerable areas.

My teeth pierced his skin. I flexed my claw at the same time and dragged it across his flank.
