But Everleigh is…

I stop that thought before it goes any further. “Yep, Everleigh this is Bryson, and Bryson, this is Everleigh.”

She smiles and offers her hand which he takes but pulls her in for a hug instead. I can tell from the way her body goes stiff that she’s uncomfortable. I reach down and take her hand in mine. It’s enough to distract her and break the hug which she does with a step backwards towards me.

Watching Bryson touch her makes my skin crawl.

Is this how it’s going to be all night? Guys drooling all over her? Since when does everyone notice the good girl? As soon as I dress her up, she’s the hottest chick at the party.

“You’re gonna have fun taking that V tonight aren’t you Landon?” Bryson says to me and I want to punch him in the face. Most of the time his nonsense doesn’t phase me. Tonight it’s pissing me off..

I throw him a look that says shut the fuck up and move towards the drink station, taking Ev with me, our hands still intertwined.

Not for long. Felix jumps between us and breaks the connection in his usual overbearing way.“Hi, I’m Felix.” He holds his hand out to Ev and smiles at both of us.

Everleigh looks at me and I nod.

“He’s a good one.”

She shakes his hand. “Everleigh. Nice to meet you.”

“Make sure this bozo treats you nice, alright? Otherwise he’ll have to deal with me.” Felix waves his thumb towards me.

“Bozo?” I ask as I start to mix up another one of my concoctions. “And I was just about to make you a drink.”

“No wait, you know I was joking, dude. Don’t deprive me of your amazing bartending skills.” Felix looks at Ev. “He makes a mean drink, doesn’t he?”

I wait with baited breath to see what she says. I don’t think she’d be sarcastic and joke that it’s awful, but it’s not out of the realm of possibility either.

“They’re okay.” Everleigh says with a smirk.

The smirk tells me she’s teasing me, but my stomach still sinks at the thought of her not liking them.

Why does her opinion matter? Another thought of mine I ignore.

“Just okay? No way, pretty girl.” Felix shakes his head and as much as the guy likes to talk, he’s always rooting for me.

“I know, I know. I’m just kidding, they are delicious.”

I hide my relief and focus on making our drinks. When I finish, I pour three and hand them each one. I hold mine up. “Cheers to a fun night.”

Everleigh and Felix tap their cups with mine and we all drink.

“Shit, bro, does it again! Those flavors be popping off on my tongue.” Felix’s excitement is bubbling over and it's contagious. I hold out my fist for a pound and when I look at Everleigh, she’s smiling, but not just any smile. A sincere one.

I’d be lying if I said it didn’t send a warm tingle down my spine. Or make my cock twitch. My mind drifts to thoughts of sprinkling the drink all over her skin and licking it off.

I clench my jaw and swallow down the moan trying to escape my throat. I should probably shove an ice cube down my pants because I’m ready to throw her over my shoulder and take her to an empty bedroom upstairs.

That smile…I want to see it again and again, to be the reason she smiles like that in the first place.

But I’ll never admit it. I’ll never act on it either. That shit only causes trouble. Trouble I don’t want or need.
