“Why? You know you are. You love all the attention.”

“I also genuinely enjoy making drinks for people.”

I study the expression on his face and he doesn’t look as if he’s joking, no smirk or famous Landon grin in sight. A part of me feels bad, like maybe I came off too harsh. But since when do I care when it comes to Landon? Doesn’t he say assholey things a lot?

Still. His whole demeanor changed. Maybe he’s insecure about it? Does Landon really have feelings inside that shell of his after all?

“And it shows in the drinks you make.”

“You think so?” His voice starts out high but then he clears his throat and speaks lower. “How?”

“By how good they taste.”

“Thanks, Ev. I appreciate—”

Felix dive bombs between us for the second time tonight, this one being a little more over the top considering how drunk he is. He wraps his arms around the two of us. His breath reeks of vodka and I cringe. The smell is so strong, it’s burning my nostrils. When he sways to the side, he takes both of us with him and he almost knocks me down. “You two are such a cute couple.”

“Oh no we’re not a couple.” I say quickly.

“Whoa, whoa, whoa. Felix, dude, you’re drunk, c’mon, let’s get you some coffee.” He does a quick scan around the room. “Lukas, can you help me?”

“Sure thing.” A tall beefy guy walks right over and takes Felix’s arm from off my shoulders, placing it on his own.

“No, wait! She smells really nice.” Felix grins and tries to lean forward and sniff me but Landon steps between us with no hesitation.

“Let’s go, buddy. She doesn’t want to be sniffed.” Landon and Lukas walk Felix into the kitchen.

“Empty a chair at the table please. We’re coming through.” Landon announces and several people scatter. “Someone get him some coffee, too please.”

Wow, it’s strange seeing all these new sides of Landon. A caring sweet one, and now a bossy one that wants to take charge.

Don’t forget, he’s still Landon. Somewhere in there.

After Felix is settled at the table with a steaming mug, Landon and I continue with asking people to grab drinks for us. It’s fun to mingle and joke with Landon and everyone there.

My usual quiet self disappears and out comes a talkative social make conversation kind of girl. One I don’t let many others see. But the alcohol has me feeling good. I catch Landon smiling at me a few times and I wonder if he’s thinking the same thing.

After we ask several people, we go back to the kitchen, where Landon whips up pitchers of his own drinks. As people flow through the area and hand us drinks, we offer one in return, even if they already got themselves one. Never can have too much right?

It’s the most fun I’ve had in a long time. Everyone laughs or smiles or is just so happy to have a drink handed back to them, especially one of Landon’s.

The night goes on and the crowd starts to thin out as the party dies down. We continue having fun, drinking and laughing at stupid shit. Right now, we’re sitting at the kitchen table, laughing at Felix slumped over, passed out and snoring.

“He snores sooooo loud.” My words slur and I cover my mouth and burst into a fit of giggles. After three of Landon’s drinks, my small buzz morphed into full blown drunk so quickly. But why stop when I’m having fun? Landon made me a fourth drink, then a fifth. Then I lost count. I’m surprised my eyes are still open.

“We should prank him.” Landon gives me a mischievous look.

“Noooo wayyy,” I shake my head but the room spins so I stop. “That is soooo mean. Like so mean.”

“Like really? Like tell me how mean?”

I jab him in the side and he laughs harder. I jab him again with more force and he yelps. “Ouch!”

“Oh please, that didn’t hurt. My little sister would take that better than you.”

“Oh, yeah?” Landon scoffs between laughs. “Ha! That’s a good one, Ev. A real good one. I didn’t know you had a sister.”

“There’s lots you don’t know about me.”
