“It’s a beautiful place,” he commented, stepping out of the foyer and turning toward the kitchen. The modern appliances gleamed in stainless steel, while cream ceramic tiles lined the countertops. Sunshine streamed in through the window above the sink. A bar with stools separated the kitchen from the living room, which boasted a tongue-and-groove wood ceiling. Dark oak cabinets and beige tile flooring completed the look.

“This home also has a dining room, and the living room features a wood-burning fireplace that is open on both sides, connecting to the dining area. The main bedroom even has a fireplace. Do you have any family, Cody?”

“Just a sister. She lives in Hartland. I was going there when I saw the sign and wanted to check it out.”

“It’s a big house for one person,” Lydia murmured.

Cody turned to look at her and grinned. “Well, I am hoping to have a family one day.”

“I didn’t mean to pry…”

“No, it’s fine. I’m mostly interested in the land. The house is just a bonus. I raise bucking bulls for competitions.”

“I see. You would certainly have enough land to do that.”

“Yes, ma’am.”

“Let me show you the rest of the house.”

He followed her into the living room, grinned, and walked around her to the center. It was perfect. The ceilings in every room were the same as in the kitchen.

“The floors, except for the kitchen and bedrooms, are all made of oak hardwood,” Lydia said as she stood behind him. “The bedrooms have carpet, and each has its own bathroom. And of course, you have already seen the kitchen. The bathrooms have white ceramic tiles. The half bath is just down the hallway.” She pointed to a doorway in the living room. “All of the bedrooms are upstairs.”

“It’s a stunning house.”

“Yes, it truly is.”

Cody followed her out of the living room and up the stairs. They stopped at each open door, taking in the good-sized rooms. Lydia paused at the landing and gestured toward a small nook.

“This would make a great reading area.”

Cody nodded in agreement; all it needed was a couch and a few chairs. Lydia then led him to another door.

“This is the office, but it could also be used as a bedroom if needed. It doesn’t have its own bathroom like the others. The master bedroom takes up this entire side of the hallway.”

He stepped into the office and was immediately drawn to the row of windows.

“This would be perfect for an office with all that natural light, and the view is remarkable,” he stated as he gazed at the mountains.

“The hallway bathroom is next to the office. Wait until you see the master bedroom.”

Lydia guided him to the other end of the hallway and he couldn’t help but smile upon entering the spacious master bedroom.

“Damn,” he said, then shook his head. “I apologize for that, ma’am.”

Lydia laughed. “Oh, please. I’ve heard much worse. What do you think?”

“To say it’s nice would be a vast understatement.” He glanced around the room and entered the bathroom. “That shower alone is worth it.”

He studied the shower stall, taking in the white tile wall and glass enclosure that reached the ceiling. The floor matched perfectly with the tile surrounding the shower. The white cast oval iron tub had a faucet on the side against the wall. He leaned over and noticed it also had jets. He could already imagine soaking in it after a long day. As he looked back at Lydia, he couldn’t help but smile.

“I like this house.”

Before he could say more, his phone buzzed in his pocket. “I’m sorry, but I need to take this,” he said to Lydia, who nodded.

“Gray, I’ll be there soon. I had to make a quick stop.” He stepped out of the bathroom as he spoke.

“Just checking in. Vivian said she hadn’t heard from you.”
