“Tell my sister not to worry; I’ll text her in a few minutes. I’m the older sibling.”

Gray chuckled on the other end. “Yeah, right. That will definitely make a difference. See you when you get here.”

“Sounds good,” Cody responded with a grin before hanging up and returning his phone to his pocket.

“My apologies for that interruption.”

“It’s no problem. Did you mention Gray? Is that Gray Beckett?”

“Yes, ma’am. His wife is my sister.”

“Oh, Vivian is a lovely person. They both are.”

“I agree with you.”

“My husband is friends with Gray. Colson Griffin.”

“I think I met him at Vivian’s wedding,” Cody said.

“You probably met his brother, Sawyer. Colson wasn’t in Clifton then.”

“Yeah, that’s it. Sawyer Griffin. Isn’t he a veterinarian?”

“Yes, and so is Colson. They have an equine hydrotherapy practice together.”

“That does wonders for horses. Do you mind if I look around a little more?”

“You can look at whatever you want. I’ll be in the kitchen. I’m going to call the office, if you don’t mind.”

“No, ma’am. You go right ahead. I’m just going to roam the house.”

The master bedroom was truly impressive to him. The walls were a calming shade of pale blue, and the carpet was a deep, rich blue. He made his way to the windows and admired the view of the lush green land outside. His bulls would surely love it here. As for himself, he was sure he would too.

Letting out a sigh, he turned away from the window and headed toward the kitchen. This house was exactly what he wanted.

As he walked along the landing, he couldn’t help but wonder if he really needed such a big house. It was just him with no significant other in his life at the moment.

When he entered the kitchen, he noticed Lydia sitting at the bar and talking on her phone. She smiled at him and signaled for him to give her a minute. Cody nodded and decided to explore the house some more. He stumbled upon the laundry room and opened a door to find a set of stairs. Feeling around for a light switch, he finally found one and flipped it on. The stairs lit up, so he cautiously made his way down them and found himself in the garage.

Turning back around, he climbed back up the stairs, turned off the light, and shut the door behind him. The laundry room had everything he needed; a front-loading washer and dryer, as well as a sink and counter space.

As he was about to leave, Lydia interrupted his thoughts by entering the room. She apologized for being on the phone earlier and stood in the doorway with something on her mind. Cody braced himself for whatever she was about to say.

“That’s all right.” He tilted his head. “Is everything okay?”

“There’s been an offer on the house,” she said.

“Oh, I see. I didn’t even ask what the price was.” He smirked.

“The sellers are asking one million, five hundred and fifty-five thousand. I think it’s worth every penny.”

“And what was the offer?”

“One million. The owners need to sell as soon as they can.”

“Why is that? Or is that something I shouldn’t ask?”

“No, it’s fine. Mr. Baskins was in a car accident a year ago and had several surgeries. Insurance wasn’t paying all his medical bills, so they’re selling this house. They have purchased a smaller one. He lost a leg in the accident.” Lydia waved her hand. “I’m sure you preferred not to hear all of that, but I’m sure they’ll take the offer to get out of this mortgage. They had this home built ten years ago, so it’s enough to pay off the mortgage and give them a little peace of mind if they can get a million.”
