“I’m looking forward to it. Call Gray about getting a reservation though or we’ll have to go somewhere else, and there aren’t a lot of choices.”

“I’ll call him as soon as I go back inside.” Cody’s eyes met hers. “I enjoyed our day together. Now you have to come back and let me teach you how to ride. I think you’d enjoy it.”

“I’d love that. I’ll talk to you soon, Cody.”

“Yes, ma’am.” He took her hand, led her to her vehicle, and opened the door for her.

Addison turned to look at him and smiled. He leaned down, kissed her lips, and nodded for her to get inside her car. He shoved the door closed then stood beside the door until she started the vehicle. She put the car into drive, waved, and drove off.

Once she disappeared down the driveway, Cody entered the house, found his cellphone, and called his brother-in-law.

“Let me call him. I’ll call you back,” Gray said and disconnected.

Cody set the phone on the counter while he put the rest of the pizza slices into baggies and put them in the fridge. He picked up his phone and walked to the living room to wait for Gray’s call.

When the phone rang, he picked it up, and answered.

“You’re in. Saturday at six-thirty.”

“Great. Thanks, I appreciate it.”

“No problem. How’s it going at the house?”

“I got a lot unpacked, but still have a few boxes to go through.”

“I don’t envy you, man. If you need help, let me know. I’m off Friday.”

“I may take you up on that.”

“All right. I just clocked someone speeding. I’ll talk to you soon.” Gray disconnected.

Cody grinned as he hung up. He liked Gray and as long as he was good to Vivian, Cody was happy.

He decided to finish unpacking while he had the energy, and he wanted to work in the barn tomorrow. The rest of his horses, along with the bulls he raised, should be here this weekend. Once they arrived, he knew it would start feeling like home.

On Friday, as he relaxed on the sofa, his phone rang again, and he picked it up to see Lind’s number. Taking a deep breath, he answered.

“Hey, Lind.”

“Cody, Rhoda and I have decided not to make the move. I think she hates the idea of moving away from her family. I’m sorry.”

Cody swallowed his frustration. “It’s okay. I understand. I’ll give the new owner of the ranch a good reference for you if you want to stay there.”

“I do. I like Clifton, but Rhoda already wants to go home. I hope you can find a good manager.”

“I’m sure I will. I’ll ask around.”

“Well, with your brother-in-law being in law enforcement, he might know some people.”

“I’m sure he does. I hate that you’re not staying, but I do understand.”

“I hope so. We’ll keep in touch. Good luck with your new place. It’s great.”

“Thanks, Lind. I’ll talk to you soon.” Cody disconnected and swore. Now he had to find a manager and that could be a problem. Most good managers were already working at ranches. He’d talk to Gray and see if he knew how he could find a manager.
