“Yeah, I was lucky.”

“I don’t know how you do it.”

“I don’t anymore.”

“Well, I don’t know how you did it, then. It’s so dangerous.”

Cody shrugged. “I didn’t think about the danger because I was always so pumped up.”

“Adrenaline.”

“Exactly.”

“Have you seen anyone get seriously hurt?”

“Of course. Quite a few, but everyone knows the risks.”

Addison shook her head. “I don’t see the appeal.”

Cody grinned. “A lot of people don’t.”

“So, what are we watching?”

They settled down to watch a movie, and Addison made some popcorn. Cody couldn’t help but steal glances at her throughout the night. He reached out to play with her hair, causing her to turn and look at him.

“It’s so soft, I’d bet just like the rest of you,” he commented. His gaze moved from her eyes to her lips, and he couldn’t resist the urge to taste them again. Leaning in slowly, he gave her time to pull away, but she didn’t. The kiss deepened as she moaned in response, and he pulled her onto his lap to get even closer. He could never get enough of her lips.

Addison loved the way he kissed. He certainly knew what he was doing in that department. She was sure he knew how to make a woman feel good in other ways too. She just didn’t want a broken heart.

After Stuart died, she immersed herself in her job. Anything to get her mind off the pain his death had caused. She swore never to get involved with a man in a dangerous occupation again.

Cody raised his lips and stared into her eyes.

“I want you, Addison, but I’ll wait.”

“Good, because as attracted to you as I am, I’m not ready for that. Stuart is the only man I have ever been with, so I need time.”

“That’s fine. We’ll get to know each other first.” He gave her a quick kiss. “Now, let’s watch this movie, then I’ll head home.”

She smiled as she touched his lightly whiskered cheek.

“Thank you.”

“Of course. I’m never going to ask you to do something you’re not ready for or don’t want to do.”

“You’re a good man, Cody Haines.”

“Don’t tell anyone.” He kissed her head.

Addison laughed as she sat up, and then leaned against his shoulder. After the movie ended, Cody got to his feet, put his hand out to her, and helped her up.

“I’d better get going. I’ll call you tomorrow, if that’s all right.”

“It is.”

“Do you want to try horseback riding tomorrow?”
