He grinned. “That’s fine, darlin’. Sleeping is the last thing on my mind when it comes to you.”

She laughed. “You know what I mean.”

“When you say not sleeping with me, does that mean, tonight or ever?”

“Definitely not tonight and as far as ever, well, let’s see where this goes.”

“Fair enough.”

“Let’s go inside and find a movie.”

“All right.” He opened his door, stepped out, and met her at the front of the truck. “I could have gotten the door for you.”

“I know, but I really want to get inside and get these damn shoes off.”

Cody stared at her. “Do you have to?”

He leaned away when she swatted at him, then leaned in and kissed her lips.

“Yes, I have to. You have no idea how they can hurt your feet.”

“Well, that’s true, and I don’t believe I’ll ever know.” He took her hand, led her to the porch, and waited while she unlocked the door. He heard the dog barking inside. “Sounds like… Lolli is happy you’re home.”

“Quit making fun of her name,” Addison said, laughing.

Cody chuckled. He liked teasing her. She pushed the door open, and they stepped inside. He watched her squat to pet the dog.

“You missed mommy, didn’t you?” she cooed to the dog.

He grinned as he watched the little dog’s body wiggle trying to get closer to her. Hell, he couldn’t blame the dog for that. He’d love to be closer to her too. When she moved to get up, Cody put his hand out to help her. She smiled at him, and his heart skipped a beat. He was way more attracted than he thought.

“Have a seat. I’ll be right back, after I change. Feel free to find us a movie.”

“Yes, ma’am.” He removed his hat, hung it on a peg, then walked to the living room and sat on the sofa as she strolled along the hallway.

He picked up the remote, aimed it at the TV, and turned it on to look for a movie. When she entered the room, he made to get up, but she waved him back down. She had changed into a T-shirt, and lounge pants. He looked at her bare feet and back to her.

“Seriously, you could have left the shoes on.”

“The point of changing was to get out of those shoes.”

“Why wear them then?”

“Because we women love to dress sexy. Even if our feet suffer for it.” She smiled. “I forgot to mention how handsome you look tonight.”

He grinned. “I’m wearing jeans, a dress shirt, and boots. Nothing much different than any other time.”

“Well, I think you look very handsome.”

“And I think you look beautiful,” he murmured as he stared into her eyes.

She ran the tip of her finger over the scar on his cheek.

“How did you get this?”

“A bull caught me with his hoof when I jumped off his back.”

“That’s close to your eye.”
