“I see. It has to be hard on him to sell.”

“It is, but we all do what we must. He’s a wonderful man and knows he doesn’t have a choice. The smaller home they bought is very nice, so I’m sure they’ll be happy there.” Lydia smiled.

Cody leaned back against the washer, folded his arms, and took a deep breath. “I like this house, Lydia. I’ll give them the asking price.”

“Oh, that would be great. With good credit, your payment should be under eight thousand a month. Do you want to review the paperwork so I can send it to the bank to see if you qualify for the loan?”

Cody smirked. “No need. I can get you a certified check by tomorrow morning.”

“Really?”

“Yes, really. Is that a problem?”

Lydia laughed. “No. Not at all. Few people can pay that much in cash. I’m not complaining, though. Trust me on that.”

“Good. When we leave here, I’ll call my bank and get the check here tomorrow.”

“That’s wonderful. It’s in fantastic shape. We have inspected the house for termites, water damage, mold, etcetera. I’m sure you’ll love it here.”

“Yes, ma’am. I’m sure I will.” He pushed off the washer. “Now, what do I need to sign?”

“Follow me,” she said.

“Yes, ma’am.” Cody followed her to the kitchen, sat on the stool, and watched her pull papers from her briefcase.

Addison Weaver stood behind the counter filling prescriptions when the bell over the door chimed. She looked up to see Vivian Beckett enter, but the man behind her caught her attention. He was tall with dark hair, and he looked to be in great shape. Who was he?

“Hi, Addison,” Vivian said as she walked to the counter.

“Vivian, how are you?” Addison asked.

“Wonderful. Oh, this is my brother, Cody Haines. Cody, this is Addison Weaver, the pharmacist and pharmacy owner, and Kinley Wilson, the pharmacy technician.”

Addison’s breath hitched as her eyes met his and she found herself lost in his mesmerizing jade-green gaze. His tanned skin radiated warmth and vitality, setting off his striking features even more. Though Vivian’s hair was auburn, and Cody’s was a deep brown, Addison couldn’t help but notice the subtle resemblance now that they were standing so close at the counter. Her fingers tingled with the urge to touch his strong jawline, and she couldn’t help but wonder about the small scar on his cheek and how he had acquired it.

A jolt of electricity shot through her as Cody brushed a hand against the brim of his white straw cowboy hat, sending her heart into a flurry of palpitations. She couldn’t deny the allure of cowboys in this town, including the two towns on each side, but something about Cody stood out to her.

“Ma’am,” he spoke in a deep, rugged voice, nodding politely to her.

“Nice to meet you, Mr. Haines,” Addison replied with a smile.

“Cody, please. Mr. Haines is our father,” he grinned, causing her heart to skip a beat.

“Holy hell,” Kinley whispered from beside her.

“I know, right?” Addison murmured back, barely able to contain her excitement.

“If I lick him, can I keep him?” Kinley joked as she filled prescriptions.

Addison couldn’t help but laugh. “Not if I lick him first.”

“I’d lick from top to bottom and everywhere in between,” Kinley teased.

Addison snorted. “Stop it. Besides, I saw him first.”

“You’re such a bitch,” Kinley playfully muttered before adding, “although I am happy to see you finally interested in another man.”
