“You say the nicest things.” She smiled at him.

He huffed out a laugh. “I try, sweetheart. I’d better go. It’s getting late, and I have to get up early.” He picked up his hat and placed it on his head.

“Me too but probably not as early as you.”

“I’m up at four.” He raised an eyebrow.

“Yeah, you have me beat by a few hours.”

Cody got to his feet. “Walk me to the door.”

“It’s right there.” She pointed at it.

“Yeah, I know where it is, but if you walk me there, I can kiss you goodnight.”

She stood. “Well, hell, why didn’t you say so?”

He shook his head. “Why do women have to be so difficult?”

“Would you want us to agree with everything a man says?”

“Like that would ever happen.”

At the door, he put his arms around her waist, pulled her close, and kissed her lips. When she moaned, he deepened the kiss, sliding his tongue into her mouth and making him groan when she sucked on it. He slowly raised his lips and gazed into her eyes.

“I’ll see you tomorrow night.”

“All right. I’ll see you then.”

“Yes, ma’am.” He touched the brim of his hat, opened the door, and walked out. He pulled the door closed and walked to his truck.

After climbing inside, he started it and drove home. He couldn’t wait to see her again.

The following day, Addison couldn’t keep the smile off her face. She didn’t think there was anything that could ruin her day.

“Why do you keep smiling? What did you do?” Kinley asked.

“I’m smiling?”

“Stop. You’re not telling me something. What is it?”

“I’m seeing Cody tonight.”

“I know. You already told me. Is that why you’re smiling?”

“Part of the reason.”

“Oh, my God! You’re not going to tell me, are you? I tell you everything.”

“Yes, you do and some I’d rather not hear.”

Kinley laughed. “I have no problem sharing with you. You’re my best friend. If I can’t tell you, who can I tell?”

“How about no one? I don’t need to hear everything.”

“Okay, don’t change the subject. Why are you smiling?”
