“I don’t. But this could be a nice place with a little cleaning up.”

“I’m not even sure how many rooms it has.” Cody surveyed the space.

The living room was spacious and open, with sliding glass doors on one wall and a stone fireplace on another. The kitchen was separated by a bar counter, with appliances provided, but their working conditions were uncertain. Down the hallway were two bedrooms with a bathroom in between.

When he returned to the living room, he saw Levi staring out the sliding doors. He seemed like a good man, but there was something in his eyes, that made Cody think, there was something in his past that bothered him. Mentally shrugging, Cody didn’t think it was something he needed to be concerned about, especially since Sam had recommended him.

Levi turned to face him. “Nice view out the back.”

“Well, it needs a good cleaning, but if you want it, it’s yours.”

“I’ll take it. I can clean it after I move in.”

“Sounds good. Let’s head back. Here, you might as well take the keys. You can move in whenever you’d like. If you need help, let me know. I’m sure the guys would help and I will too.”

“I don’t have much to move. Just my clothes and small items.”

“All right. You can start work Monday, if that will work for you.” Cody walked onto the porch. Levi followed him, pulled the door closed, and locked it then they got into the truck and drove back to the house.

“That’s fine. That will give me time to get the cabin cleaned up.”

Back at the house, they shook hands, and Levi left after telling Cody he’d get started on moving.

Cody watched him drive off, and he was glad he’d hired him. He seemed a little quiet, but maybe that was because they didn’t know each other yet. Cody hoped to change that. He liked having a good relationship with his men, and since he’d deal with Levi directly, they needed to get along.

As he walked into the house, he checked his watch. He had a few hours before he had to be at Addison’s. He grinned thinking of being with her again. He was hoping to spend the night, but he wasn’t sure how she’d feel about it. Only one way to find out.

After going over a few things in the office, he decided to get a shower, call in the pizza, and after picking it up, he’d go to Addison’s house. He couldn’t wait to see her again. He hoped this would lead to something good between them.

Chapter Six

Addison burst through the front door, feeling rushed and frazzled. She desperately needed to shower before Cody arrived at seven o’clock. Glancing at the clock, she realized it was already six thirty; she was cutting it close for sure. It seemed like every person in town needed a last-minute prescription filled today.

As much as she loved her job, there were days where she wanted to scream in frustration. Thankfully, her staff was always there to help her keep up with the demand. After a quick shower, Addison dressed and headed to the kitchen to feed Lolli.

“Sorry, baby. Mommy’s running late,” she apologized as she filled the food and water bowls. Lolli eagerly dove into her meal, not even bothering to acknowledge Addison’s presence. “I see what’s more important to you,” Addison teased the dog before making her way to the living room. As she heard a vehicle outside, she checked the clock and saw that it was ten till seven. At least the man was punctual.

She placed her hand over her belly to calm her nerves, but it didn’t help. She was so anxious to see him again.

When a knock sounded on the door, she took a deep breath, walked to it, and opened it to see him standing there with a dozen yellow roses, and a pizza box.

“Hi,” he said.

“Hi, come in.”

Cody stepped into the house, handed her the roses, and lightly kissed her lips.

“Thank you.” She took the flowers, stuck her nose in them, and inhaled.

“You’re welcome,” he murmured as he stared at her.

“Let me put these in water. Have a seat.”

Lolli came running into the room, barking and Cody laughed.

“She’s a little late with the barking.”

“She was too busy with her nose buried in her food.”
