“What’s wrong?”

“Nothing.”

“Addison,” he said as he stared into her eyes.

“I’d love for you to meet her and my parents but it’s a little soon, don’t you think?”

“Soon because we just started seeing each other or soon because of your husband?”

“Stuart’s been dead for three years. It’s too soon because we just started seeing each other. I’m shocked that I slept with you.”

“Darlin’, we didn’t do any sleeping.”

“You know what I mean.” She shook her head. “Stuart was the only man I’d been with, and I sure didn’t expect to jump into bed with you that soon after meeting you.”

“We have chemistry, Addison. It was bound to happen sooner or later.”

“Later would have been my first choice.”

“I’m sorry to hear that. I can go if you’d like.”

“Oh, no. I didn’t mean it like that. I don’t regret it. I surprised myself is all and I would have thought I’d hold out longer.”

“If you want to slow down, we can. I will never pressure you.”

“I know that. I’m fine.”

“You’re not. What is it?”

She looked at him. “I don’t want this to just be about sex. I want a relationship that will last. I want to get married again and have kids before I get much older.”

“I want kids too.” He wrapped his hand around the nape of her neck. “It’s not just sex, Addison. I want to know you. Sex was just a bonus. Like I said, we can slow down. We can go out and get to know each other better.”

When she smiled, he knew he’d said the right thing.

“I’d like that, but can we start tomorrow?”

He raised his eyebrows. “Tomorrow?”

“Yes, I want you to stay tonight.”

Cody chuckled. “I’d like that too. Yeah, we can start tomorrow.”

“So, tell me about raising the bulls. How did you get into that?”

“I knew it’s what I wanted to do before I even thought about retiring.”

“Is it profitable?”

“You tell me. Each time one of my bulls is in a competition, the minute he leaves the chute, I make eight hundred thousand dollars. I have, at least, three bulls at a time in the event. It doesn’t matter if he bucks off a rider in one second or goes the full eight.”

Her eyes widened. “You make over two million dollars at a time?”

He nodded. “For each event.”

“How many events a year?”

“Up to two hundred.”
