They stared at each other until someone cleared their throat. Cody smiled and so did Addison.

“It’s always busy this time of the day. Most people stop in on their lunch hour.” Addison looked at the woman. “I’ll just be a minute, Lucy.”

“No problem, Addison. I just wanted to drop off the prescription. I’ll be back after I make a trip to the Feed Store for Reid.”

“All right. Thank you, Lucy.”

Cody watched the woman walk out of the store, then looked at Addison.

“Can I see you tomorrow night?”

“Sure. I’ll make dinner.”

“Can you cook?”

“Of course. I can make spaghetti since it’s quick.”

“I love spaghetti. Sounds good, darlin’. I’ll see you around seven, is that okay?”

“Perfect.”

He leaned down and whispered in her ear.

“I’d love to kiss you, but I’m sure it would start all types of rumors.”

“No doubt there.” She laughed.

“I’ll do that… and more, tomorrow night. See you later.” He touched the brim of his hat, grinned when she blushed, then walked out the door.

As he drove home, he couldn’t stop thinking about seeing Gwyn, but it wasn’t possible. First off, she’d have no idea where he was, and second off, why would she even come looking for him after all this time. He shook his head. There was no way it was her.

As the workday came to a close on Tuesday evening, Addison retrieved her purse from the safe and turned off the lights before stepping outside. She made sure to lock the door behind her and headed toward her car. However, she hesitated when she noticed a man leaning against a nearby building, smoking a cigarette and watching her. Although he could have been a tourist, Addison couldn’t shake off her unease about his presence. It was after six and most of the town was deserted at this time of day, with tourists back at the Clifton Bed and Breakfast.

Fearing for her safety, Addison was relieved when Noah Conway suddenly appeared and offered to walk her to her car. Despite feeling silly about it, she asked him to do so due to her discomfort with the other man. Noah was a big and intimidating man, standing at six five and over two-hundred pounds with no excess fat on him.

As they walked, Addison couldn’t help but think that if Noah confronted the man, he would never hang around her shop again. However, she didn’t want to risk walking past him alone and was grateful for Noah’s company.

“I’m meeting Scarlett for dinner at the diner, but I’m a little early, so come on, I’ll walk with you.”

She couldn’t believe it when he took her hand in his and led her toward the man. Noah came to a halt in front of the man and locked eyes with him. The man cleared his throat, extinguished his cigarette, and flicked the butt into a nearby trash can before walking away.

“Thank you,” she murmured, her voice barely above a whisper. “I don’t know what it was, but that man made me uneasy.”

“Always trust your gut. I see Scarlett do it all the time at the bar. Women have a strong intuition and I’ve seen firsthand how accurate it can be.”

When they reached her car, she unlocked it, and Noah reached around her to open it for her. She smiled at him. Most men around here had manners.

“Thank you.”

“You’re welcome. Have a good evening, Addison.” He touched the brim of his hat.

“You too. Tell Scarlett hello for me.”

Noah grinned. “Will do. Be careful driving home.”

She nodded, got into her car, started it, and drove home. All the while glancing into her rearview mirror making sure no one followed her. She shook her head.
