As they all said their goodbyes and left the restaurant later, they shared another hug in the parking lot before going their separate ways. Cody drove to her house and turned off the truck’s engine before turning to look at her. She smiled at him.
“You’re staying over tonight.”
“Are you asking or telling?” He crossed his arms and looked at her expectantly.
“Telling.”
Cody nodded in agreement. “Good to know. Let’s get inside, it’s chilly out here.”
Addison opened the door, stepped out, and met him at the front of the truck. They walked hand in hand to the front door. Cody took the key from her, unlocked the door, pushed it open, then handed the key back to her. They both laughed when Lolli ran into the living room barking. Cody shook his head in amusement.
“She has quite a menacing bark for such a little dog.”
“But she could still bite your ankles,” Addison pointed out with a smile.
“That’s true.” He chuckled.
They took off their coats and hung them up before Cody also hung up his hat. He turned to face Addison with a smile on his face.
Addison returned the smile as she walked over to him and wrapped her arms around his waist. She tilted her head up for a kiss and Cody leaned down to meet her lips. After a few moments, he pulled away but continued to gaze into her eyes.
“I want you,” he whispered.
“I want you too,” she replied just as softly. She took his hand and led him toward the bedroom.
“You’re leaving the boots on,” he murmured.
Pushing him onto the bed, Addison removed his boots before unbuttoning his shirt and sliding it off his shoulders. His hands gripped her waist as she stood between his legs.
“Turn around,” he commanded. She complied, and he slowly unzipped the back of her dress. Standing up, he turned her to face him and slid the sleeves down her arms until the top bunched at her waist. He hooked his fingers in the waistband of her dress and gently pushed it down. Then he sat on the edge of the bed and pulled her between his legs, unhooking the front clasp of her bra as they kissed passionately. He slid the straps down and removed her bra.
As they gazed into each other’s eyes, she knew she wanted to spend the rest of her life with this man.
When he hooked his fingers in the elastic band of her panties, she held her breath in anticipation. He slowly slid them down her legs and she stepped out of them. Standing back up, he picked her up and placed her gently on the center of the bed.
She watched as he removed his wallet, retrieved a condom, and handed it to her. She took it and continued to watch as he unbuckled his belt, unsnapped his jeans, and lowered the zipper while never taking his eyes off hers. She sat up and inched closer to him, using her thumbs to push down on the elastic waistband of his underwear. The following weekend, Cody strode into the barn, his boots thudding against the wooden floor. October had finally arrived, carrying with it a hint of winter’s chill. Snowflakes floated gently from the sky, and a winter storm warning was in effect. But Cody didn’t pay it any mind; all he could think about was Addison coming to spend the weekend with him. She was even bringing Lolli. Cody couldn’t help but chuckle at the name. Lollipop. He had grown to love the little dog and looked forward to having her around for the weekend.
Inside, he could hear the sounds of horses and men working. He walked down the aisle, passing by stalls filled with hay and saddles. As he approached the indoor corral, he saw Jude watching a horse run around inside.
“Jude,” Cody called out.
“Hey, boss,” Jude replied with a nod.
“Is Levi around?”
“I think he’s out with Axel. They’re rounding up the bulls because of the storm.”
