He frowned, looking up at me. “Most of the time I do. I don’t know why this is different.”

I sighed heavily. “Because we’re in stasis.”

“We’re in what?”

“This!” I tossed my hands up. “None of this is real. I mean, where we are is real, but the you I know in Giulia’s world is all over me all the time!”

“What are you talking about?” he asked, pushing to stand. “Who’s Giulia?”

“You remember how Rob said we were in a book? We are. This is the time when Giulia sleeps. Normally, we would just exist, but we’ve…woken up or something. We exist when she’s not here. And I want sex all the time and you,” I motioned at him, “apparently, have no sex drive.”

“So…when she…wakes up, I’ll be me again?”

“Yes, but book you. This is the real you. Sexless,” I muttered.

A grin lit his face. “You mean, I don’t have to have sex all the time?”

“Thanks,” I snapped. “You’re making me feel so good.”

He grabbed my hands, grinning from ear to ear. “Do the others know about this?”

“Of course they do. Well, some of them. FYI, Kate is dumber than a box of rocks in this world.”

He frowned. “What about Knight?”

“No idea,” I shrugged. “We’re trying to get the others to see the light. Want to help?”

“Uh, yeah!” he said excitedly. “Just think…no more sex.”

I sighed, deflated by the fact that my husband didn’t want sex. “Try to be a little less enthusiastic about it.”

“This is amazing,” he said, hurrying to grab clothes. He snatched mine off the floor and tossed them at me. “You should really put those on before someone gets the wrong idea.”

“That I want sex? Yeah, that’s not gonna happen.”

He shoved his leg into his pants and continued grinning happily. “Just wait until Cap finds out.”

“Other than the no sex thing…do you feel any different?”

“In what way?”

“Well…if I asked you to blow something up, how would you feel about that?”

He frowned, thinking it over. “I’m not sure. I guess I’d have to be in the moment.”

“So, you don’t feel like there’s something else you want to do with your life?”

“I just found out there’s another dimension to this world,” he declared. “Give me a minute to wrap my brain around it.”

“Fine, but you have to help us convince the others. No matter what it takes, you can’t take their side. This is life and death.”

He nodded. “Right. You can count on me.” We hustled downstairs, but then he snapped his fingers. “Hold up. We should check on the kids.”

“Shoot, I forgot we had those. You know, other than when we check on them for the book, I don’t remember doing anything with them.”

“You’re right.” He huffed out a laugh. “Interesting how that works.”

We ran upstairs, but when we got to the kids’ rooms, no one was there. “Where did they go?”
