“Seriously?” Rocco asked. “Since when?”
“Well…since always.”
“Wait, you know me, right?” Hunter asked.
Knight scoffed. “Of course I do.”
“Oh, thank God!”
“You’re married to Lucy. Man is she amazing with a rifle. I wish I had her skills.”
My jaw dropped as I stared at the man who turned us all into a new level of awesome. But he wasn’t him any longer.
“Hey, I was thinking we could all get together this Friday with the kids. You know, the girls have been working late and the kids have been bugging me to have everyone over so we could bake cookies.”
“Bake cookies,” Hunter deadpanned.
“Yeah, just like old times. It’ll be fun.” In a very unlike Knight fashion, he grinned wide, his bright white smile nearly blinding us all.
“Knight, if I were to pull the pin on a grenade, what would you do?”
He frowned for a moment, then grinned at me. “Is this like a Maggie test?”
“What’s a Maggie test?”
“You know how she kept testing you while you were on the run.”
“When I was…” I looked at the guys and shook my head. “What are you talking about?”
He looked at the four of us, obviously confused. “When you were on the run from your abusive ex. Maggie came to your rescue…You don’t remember that?”
The world spun around me as I stared at Knight wobbling in my vision. Everything was upside down and inside out. My life was no longer my own. The dizzying feeling became too much.
“Sinner?”
“Yeah?”
“Catch me.”
And then I passed out.

Someone was slapping me on the face. I peeled my eyes open against every instinct, hoping this time everything would be different. Maggie stood over me, an annoyed expression on her face. She was tapping her foot and her arms were crossed over her chest as she glared at me.
“You didn’t take your medication today, did you?”
“Medication?”
“Your medication,” she huffed. “For your diabetes.”
“My diabetes?” I asked, confused as hell.
She sighed and walked over to Raegan, holding out her hand. “Can I have his insulin?”
Raegan nodded, walking over to Hunter’s medical cabinet and pulled out a syringe.
