Page 95 of Playing With Fire

“You’re fucking crazy,” Cap snapped. “You’re not blowing up my building.”

“It’s not your building! These walls aren’t real!”

“Of course they’re real. I can feel them.”

There was only one thing for me to do. I spun, grabbed Sinner’s gun out of his holster, and held it on him. This was it. It was now or never. I took slow breaths as everyone around me waited for my next move. I really didn’t want to shoot anyone, even if they couldn’t die. It wouldn’t exactly bring a lot of faith my way.

Pointing the gun just beyond his head, I fired once, but nothing happened. I snorted out a laugh, then burst into full-on laughter. “Holy shit. It worked.”

Cap tackled me before I could regain my senses. “What the fuck are you doing?”

“It didn’t fire. Don’t you see?”

“Yeah, I see that you need to be heavily sedated,” he grunted, pulling my arms tight behind my back. “Hunter!”

“Yeah, I got him.”

Hunter hauled me to my feet, his eyes skewering me. “You might have tricked Kate, but the rest of us don’t believe you.”

“Don’t you see?” I asked incredulously. “The gun didn’t fire, and that’s because she’s asleep right now.”

He rolled his eyes at me. “Right, the writer is asleep, so none of us can die.”

He shoved me toward the elevator. “None of us can die,” I murmured to myself. “If none of us can die while she’s sleeping, then…what’s going to happen when she wakes up and sees what happened?”

Fuck, I just screwed myself over. I had one chance to convince them and I failed.

I gasped as I came awake suddenly, my heart racing like it never had before. “Holy shit!”

“Shh!”

I blinked away the coma I had been forced into, looking at the excited faces surrounding me. Cara, Kate, Claire, and Maggie surrounded me. “What’s going on?”

“We’re breaking you out of here,” Maggie grinned.

“Um…thanks, but why?”

“Because everything you said makes complete sense. Leave it to a bunch of men to not see what’s going on,” Claire grinned.

“Um…I think I should be offended, but I’m gonna be glad you’re breaking me out of here.”

I swung my legs over the edge of the bed and fought off the dizziness that raced through my head. “Whoa.”

“Sorry, I had to wake you up suddenly,” Kate shrugged. “We have to move now or we won’t get out.”

“What are we doing?”

“What does any girl do when there’s a point to be made?” Maggie grinned.

“Aw, shit. We’re gonna blow up the building, aren’t we?”

“Do you know another way to prove your point?”

“I shouldn’t be surprised. It was my idea, after all. But still, aren’t you worried about everyone else? What if I’m wrong about this?”

Cara glared at me. “What about all that stuff you said to me?”

“That’s all true, but what if we blow the place up and it doesn’t…not blow up? What if it actually blows up and we kill everyone inside?”
