I put the phone away and kept drinking. He likely hadn’t heard from Dominic about what went down. My chest hurt even more when I thought about Aiden. Dominic had rejected me. That meant no matter what happened, Aiden and Declan would never be mine. They were a pack - they came as a unit. I had to mourn the loss of all of them, and I wasn’t ready to face that yet.

I tried not to think about it too much. Anyway, this world wasn’t mine. I needed to find a way to get back to my own. But for now, I’d drink, flirt, and do whatever I wanted just like any free woman. I scanned the brewery as I drank. There were plenty of people here. A lot of them were attractive, but I just couldn’t find myself caring about talking to any of them so I settled for people watching. After a few minutes, I felt someone push me slightly to get to the bar.

“Hey! Careful!” I yelped as I looked up at the massive man who barged his way to the front to order. He was an alpha for sure. He looked down at me with annoyance, but then his eyes widened.

“Hey, you look familiar…” He studied me a bit longer, and I suddenly had a sinking feeling in my stomach. I recognized him. He was one of the rude alphas who had cornered and chased me out of the Gritty Growl’s concert. I quickly set down my drink and turned away. “Hold on a second.” His voice was laced with the slightest trace of an alpha command, and the few people around us moved away slightly by instinct. I hated it. Being commanded twice in one night? What was wrong with these cretins. He grabbed my shoulder as I tried to leave. “You’re that..omega, aren't you?” He said ‘omega’ in a whisper, and I tried again to walk away. He quickly stood in front of me, blocking my path.

“Hold on now. I don’t mean you any harm. You have a drink with me, and I won’t let anyone else here know you aren’t a beta.” I swallowed hard. There were other alphas around us, and I wasn’t sure if they would get weird if they knew I was an unmated omega. I wanted nothing to do with him after the boundary pushing he did the last time I was around him and his pack. But I also wasn't sure what to do. Would he command me to stay? Maybe if I played along, I could distract him and run off again. “Come on, my pack is right over there.” He pointed to a corner booth.Shit.Now I had to deal with his pack too.

“I’ll have a drink with you, but could we go somewhere with fresh air?” I fanned my face with my hand, and he narrowed his eyes at me before nodding. He walked us over to his pack, most of whom recognized me after a few moments.

“Well well, look who it is.” One of them said with a grin, getting out of the booth to tower over me. He leaned in to run his nose along my neck. “Hm. No scent this time. It’s alright, we can still have fun.” I shivered in disgust as the rest of them piled out and moved me over to one of the tables near the patio. They surrounded me, practically making me invisible as they herded me to a table near the corner that was, thankfully, near some fresh air. Unfortunately, I didn’t see a way out as they sat in a semicircle, crowding me against the wall. My chair was pushed up against the back and I tried not to glance too much at the railing that separated the brewery from the patio. If I could just get over that, I could run off like last time. How had this happened? I thought I could just come out here and act like I was in my own world. But now I was having the sickening realization that I truly wasn’t free to act like I was back home. I had been foolish. There were rules here for a reason, and I was breaking them left and right.

One of them ran their hand up my back, which as gross as it was, somehow gave me a shiver of excitement. These alphas were paying all of their attention to me, and though my human brain knew they were bad guys, my omega brain loved it. I was breathing heavier now as another one gripped my thigh.

“So what’s a good omega like you doing out at a place like this? Looking for some alphas to take care of you?” One of them said, his hand moving higher up on my thigh. “You know, you gave us quite a chase when you ran off last time. Almost like you didn’t want us.” another chuckled as he pushed a fresh, cold glass of beer to me. “That couldn't be right. An omega wouldn’t be out prowling the bars near heat unless she was desperate for alphas. You want us to take care of you, sweetheart? You’re awfully warm.” I reached up, feeling my face. I was hot, and my hand came away damp. I was beading sweat without realizing it. And to be honest, their hands did feel good on me. My center started throbbing as my omega brain took over. Someone needed to take care of me, and soon. Maybe these ones, as slimy as they were, would have to do.

I snapped out of it, looking up wildly. I felt my pants dampen in the center. I was producing slick! This couldn’t be - I couldn’t start doing this here! Then I remembered something awful. I usually took a suppressant before bedtime. Around the time when I had arrived back at the Omega House, I should have taken at least two to ward off my heat symptoms. Now with the excitement of being around Dominic who had me all worked up along with the whiplash of the evening, I was overwhelmed. These alphas were now the tipping point, pushing my body into what I knew was the final stage - I was going into heat.

My abdomen cramped harder than it ever had in my life. I bowled over, clutching it as I gritted my teeth. “Are you alright?” One of the alphas asked, and I nodded, trying to play it cool.

“Just some bad food from earlier.” Another one of them stilled, and I knew it was over for me.

“Do you smell that?” He growled. The rest of them slowly went still and inhaled. “Fuck, it’s even stronger than last time. How is that possible?” Immediately they were in my space, smelling and grasping at me. Their scents weren’t great - they were too strong and gave me a headache. But it was nothing compared to the sudden, intense, urgentneedthat pulsed through my core. I had to get out of here, or I was going to do something I regretted with these men. My phone was in my pocket, but with them all around me, I couldn't get to it discreetly. I knew they were about to become highly territorial.

Think Piper!I berated myself as my mind raced. What did you learn about alphas and omegas? I fought through the pain and remembered that alphas will do pretty much anything for a whiny omega. I knocked the beer to the floor, shattering it as glass flew across the tile. “I need water!” I let out the biggest whine I could muster, which wasn’t hard as my vocal cords tightened. Two of them immediately moved to help.

“Anything you want, omega.” One of them rushed to the counter and the other one was procuring a washcloth. Two of them were still holding me, and I realized my back was against one of them as his arms ran up and down mine, soothing me. I dropped my purse, making sure to shove it with my foot.

“Oh! My purse! Please!” I pointed and he let go momentarily to grab it for me. I didn’t think I could run, but I reached into my pocket and pulled out my phone, quickly calling Aiden and leaving the phone on, hoping he would answer and hear. When the alpha returned, he handed me my purse and put a hand up to my forehead.

“You’re about to go into full-blown heat. What a treat for us.” I whined as I spoke to him, making sure to be as loud as I could so that Aiden could hear.

“I don’t want to have my heat in the middle of Brook’s Brewery. Please, I can’t do this. I’m not ready. Not at Brook’s Brewery.” I could only hope that he would decipher my message, but I couldn’t count on it. The other alphas were on their way back with water, and I tried to turn to dial emergency services. Unfortunately Ben, the Beta of the group, had caught on to what I was doing. “Who are you calling?” He grabbed the phone out of my hands and I let out another whine. Glancing at the screen, he ended the call and put my phone in his pocket. “Trying to get away from us? Won’t happen again, sweetheart. We know what you need.” He leaned in and licked from my collarbone to my ear, and I felt a heat wave roll across my body. The minutes passed by, and I knew that I didn’t have much time left. I had to get out of here. Some of the pack members were whispering to each other, planning on how to get me out. Soon my perfume would be so strong it would fill the entire brewery. While they were talking to each other, I faked a cramp and leaned over to clutch my stomach. The alpha holding me loosened his grip as I groaned, and I used the moment to duck under his arm. I used my last strength to pull myself over the railing and leap into the patio. I heard growling behind me and stumbled through the patrons seated outside, trying to get through the patio gate to the street. I saw people clasping their hands to their noses, aware that my perfuming was out in full force now.

There was more clamor behind me as the group of alphas chased after me. They were so much faster and stronger, there was no way I was going to outrun them. But I had to try. “Help! Someone help me!” I whined, pushing my way through to the gate.

“Get her!” I heard a voice behind me and hoped one of the patrons would call the police for me. “Please take care of your omega! Get her out of here!” Someone yelled, and I sobbed. They all thought I was there with the alphas.

I ran out to the sidewalk, turning a corner to hide behind another building. I reached down, but I didn’t have my phone anymore. How was I going to get out of this? My perfume was going crazy now and my cramps were debilitating. Slick was running down my legs, soaking my jeans. Footsteps pounded the sidewalk, and I knew without looking up that the pack was here. It was too late. My body needed an alpha, and they were going to take me.

In my haze, I could only whimper as they held me and tore at me, their hands reaching for me as they carried me behind an alley. I knew they were going to rut me. My dreams of a loving, caring pack to help me out were replaced by the nightmare of a back alley and these strangers who were gripping me. I closed my eyes, the heat taking over me and muddling my brain. Then I heard pounding footsteps echoing closer down the street, and the deepest growl breaking through the wall of alphas.

“Get your hands off my mate!”

Chapter 28

Dominic

I downed another shot of whiskey and hung my head. I knew getting rid of Piper was the best thing for my pack logically, but I couldn't figure out why it made me feel like my heart was being torn out. I had a fated mate out there - she was the one for me. So why did this other omega tug at my heartstrings? She had already pre-rejected me and Declan before she even knew us, and I barely even knew who she was. My phone started ringing. I sighed when I saw it was Aiden. He was probably going to chew me a new one, but I saved our pack from a worse heartbreak this way. I silenced the call. He texted me and I looked down, expecting the worst.

SOS Piper in trouble call back!

I huffed. Her disappointment over our date wasn’t an emergency, but Aiden called again and I answered. “What?” I growled, and Aiden’s voice shouted through the phone.

“Where are you? Piper’s in trouble - she called and she’s in a brewery somewhere, I think Brook’s, surrounded by alphas. I think she’s in heat, we have to find her!” My heart leaped through my chest.

“What do you mean? I sent her home to the Omega House over an hour ago!” Had that little omega snuck back out or bribed the driver to take her somewhere else? Or was this all a ploy?
