“Who are you all? Really?” Maddox smiled so sincerely that I couldn’t help but warm up to him.

“I think you have a pretty good idea about what kind of pack we are. But I can tell you we all have honorable intentions when it comes to you. I promise we won’t hurt you, and we will get you home to where I know you have more people who care about you than you realize.” I sniffled and curled up to him. Why were they so nice to me? I felt so much more comfortable around this pack than I had with any other pack, and they weren’t even courting me. I reached out to hold his hand, and he took it, warming mine in his as he smiled at me. I breathed in his calming scent, and suddenly curled up as a heavy cramp hit me.

“Bella! What’s wrong?” He asked, his voice concerned.

“It’s the suppressants. I think I’ve been off them too long.” Maddox jumped up from the bed. “I’ll go get them, we put in an order at a pharmacy nearby.” I nodded, but I already knew it wasn’t going to help. I’d pushed my heat back a few weeks already to make sure it didn’t coincide with the Darlington Ball. Now that I’d been off them for a few days, it was going to come no matter what. And I needed a plan, fast.

“Stay here, I’ll have Jameson wait with you. I’ll be right back Bella, I promise.” Maddox practically sprinted out of the room, and it didn’t take more than a minute before Jameson came in to sit with me. I instantly calmed down. Jameson would take care of me, I knew it.

“Kitten? What’s wrong?” He rushed over to me, and I immediately reached for him as he sat with me, bundling me up in a blanket and pulling me into his lap.

“I’m okay. Now that you’re here.” I swear I felt his alpha energy puff up so much with pride that it filled the room. He turned us toward the tv and put a comedy on to distract me.

“Don’t worry, kitten. I’ll always be here, whenever you need me.” His words comforted me, but I needed to ask him a big question, and soon.

Chapter 28

Jameson

The omega was in my lap, practically purring with contentment as I stroked her hair while we watched a movie. “Jameson?” Her voice was small as she turned to look at me. “Hm? What do you need, kitten?” Her eyes flitted down as she clutched her abdomen.

“Um. It’s about my heat.” She looked embarrassed as I pulled her closer.

“What’s wrong, kitten? Tell me. Don’t hold back.” She bit her lip.

“It’s just that - I don’t think suppressants can hold it off much longer. I went without them for too long and it threw off my cycle. I think it’s coming really soon.” I adjusted her so she could face me, concerned about her.

“What can I do to help? Anything you need, name it.” She looked down at my chest, unable to make eye contact.

“Well, I usually use a surrogate pack. But I was wondering if you, and maybe your pack, would help me?” I looked at her, so small and shy as she requested what would be the greatest compliment I’d ever received. I held her close to me, sure she would feel my heart beating out of control at the thought of helping her through one of her most intimate moments.

“Kitten, I would be honored to help you through your heat. I will do anything you ask and make sure you are satisfied and safe.” I tilted my head down to give her a gentle kiss on the forehead. She snuggled into me, melting as her body relaxed against mine. We hadn’t expected dealing with an omega in heat for this mission. We’d have to rearrange our schedules and make a nest as soon as possible. But we would make it work. I think at this point, most of us would do just about anything to help her.

“I have to ask though - are you sure you want our pack to help you? We did take you, after all.” I needed to give her a choice, since she might have thought we were her only one. And as much as helping her through heat was the number one thing I wanted in the world, I also didn’t want her to regret it. “We could always get you a surrogate pack, or try to get you home as quickly as we can. I don’t know if we’d get you back to Haven in time, but there are surrogates here.” I prayed to any deity that she would say no to that. It went against every instinct in me as an alpha to offer her this - I wanted her for myself, my pack. I had never felt so strongly about an omega before, and her scent was so beautiful that I never wanted to smell another omega again. But she turned to me and pressed her body into mine.

“No! I want it to be you. I don’t want any other pack!” She said it with such desperation that I was stunned for a moment. It was almost as if she thought I was trying to pawn her off on some other pack, as if we didn’t want her.

“Of course, kitten. I’ll make sure I give you everything you could want and need. I would love to help you. I’m sure you can already tell that my pack members are very fond of you, so you tell me who you want and I’ll make it happen.” Her face lit up, and I was already dreaming about how we would all look as we took her. I tried to keep myself from becoming too excited before talking to the rest of the pack first. Maddox had left to get suppressants, but I sent him a quick text so he’d know what she asked. The suppressants were probably useless at this point. Bella was calmed down now that she had reassurance from me.

“I want all of you, well, maybe not the one who was angry, unless he’s interested.” I was surprised that she asked about Kian. He hadn’t made the best impression so far. But I knew he wanted her despite his attitude.

“I’ll go talk to them. We will need to get you a nest soon.” She nodded and clutched her abdomen, trying not to grimace. If Kian didn’t want to help her through this, it was his choice. But she could rely on me. I’d make sure that by the end of the heat, she’d want no other pack but ours.

Chapter 29

Kian

This was possibly the worst mission in our history. The omega had seen our faces, and the rest of the pack didn’t seem to care. And worst of all, Jameson had let it happen intentionally. Letting her go back home risked not only our reputation with the client, but also put our identities at risk. The omega didn’t know who I was, but I didn’t want her working with a sketch artist, even if the authorities in the Western Province couldn’t do much of anything about it. And on top of everything, my pack was falling for her. I could feel the emotions pulling through our bonds, and it made it hard for me to keep a clear head. And as pack leader, I had to be the one to keep us safe. She was a liability, no matter how I looked at it.

She already had Jameson eating out of the palm of her hand. He’d opened up significantly in her presence, and I hadn’t felt his bonds this clearly in years. I knew the work he did must weigh on him, but I never realized how much until his feelings of happiness started flowing through our pack bond little by little. For some reason I just thought he’d always been closed off, but it turns out he had a soft side. At least with this omega. And Maddox was calmer than I’d felt him in a long time. He’d carried the burden of so many missions as a fighter as well as our resident medical expert. Being a beta meant he had to work even harder in combat. I tried my hardest to help him relax when we’d have a close call, but I was always the dynamic of me taking care of him. Now, I could see that caring for someone weaker than him was giving him a different purpose. His anxiety had subsided significantly. Even Cy was happier than usual, joking with the omega as he explained things to her. I remembered seeing him in the room earlier as he helped with the tv. She was fascinated by the tattoos on his fingers, and I watched as she studied them, taking his hand in her tiny one and examining each small tattoo. I had a sudden vision of those fingers in her mouth as she sucked on them slowly, while Cy lay on top as he thrust slowly inside of her.

Shaking the idea out of my head, I turned to leave. I needed to get out of this house. If I didn’t, it would only be a matter of time before the combined pheromones of my pack and this omega had me losing my mind. I was almost at the door when I heard someone chase after me. “Hold on. We need to talk.” Maddox was right behind me, grabbing his jacket as I pressed my palm against the keypad to open the industrial strength door.

“Let’s talk outside then. I can’t think in here.” The air was crisp as we crossed into the yard, the property extending several acres which allowed us solitude and easy access to escape quickly if need be. Maddox waited until we were away from the house before speaking.

“Kian. I know what you think of the omega. But her heat is coming soon.” I gave him a pointed look.

“I’m aware. You think I can’t smell it? It’s all the more reason we need to get her somewhere safe, and soon.” The leaves crunched under his feet as we walked through the trees that peppered the property.
