“But you don’t have a cat.”

“Landon doesn’t know that.”

“But…” She had concerns. “Of course he will be weird. He is a Fuller.”

“I mean overly weird,” Cadence told her.

“Oh. Okay. What is the code word?”

“Code word is the cockroach emoji,” Jenna murmured as she typed away. “I just opened the thread. You should have a text from me.”

“How do you even have my number?” Lucia asked.

“We got it from Bash. He knows everyone’s number.”

“Oh.” Lucia frowned. “Why didn’t you just ask me for my number?”

“Because ninety-five percent of the time it looks like you are trying to kill us with mind-bullets.”

Touché.

“Fair. I’ll let you know if I need an excuse to leave,” she assured them.

Lucia turned and looked at herself in the mirror as Cadence rustled around in her bathroom for makeup.

She wasn’t used to showing this much skin, but she felt kind of…pretty.

It had been awhile.

When she met her eyes in the mirror, she was surprised. There was life in her eyes again, and a smile on her face.

Her smile looked like Mom’s when it was this big.

Okay.

Okay!

She was glad she’d asked the girls for help.

Chapter Five

Landon had never been nervous a day in his life, so what the hell was wrong with him right now?

He wiped his palms on his jeans and squeezed his fists a few times to work out the tingling sensation. Was he about to Change?

He’d gotten gas, check. Sent the dick pic, and then deleted it like Lucia had asked, check. He’d gotten her flowers. Would Lucia like flowers? Fuck, he hadn’t ever done this before. Panicking, he took the bouquet from the passenger’s seat and threw them out the window.

Unfortunately, he was already parked in front of her mobile home, so the flowers just landed in her yard.

Nice.

He looked in the rearview mirror and mussed up his blond hair, flattened it, messed it up again, got frustrated and flipped himself off in the mirror, and then shoved his door open.

“What are you doing?” Lucia asked.

He jerked his attention up. Lucia stood in her open doorway wearing a shimmery green dress that hit mid-thigh. She wore her dark hair down in beach waves, and had dark eye makeup that made her green eyes look even brighter. The ankle-height boots on her feet were badass and hot.

He just stood there like an oaf, staring.
