“He’s great, but maybe extend the fangs and horns a bit,” Min mused, head cocked as she examined his work. “From what you told me about Schelzan’s character, he’s a mean, green fighting machine. He looks a bit too friendly to me.”

Beau had squinted at the iPad. “Okay, you may be right. I’ll make his horns bigger, give him a more scowly look, more flames. Talking of friendly dragons… Do you think I should tell Ethan about this yet? We’re getting on better, and I really want him to know before the gala dinner. I don’t want him saying anything in public about me joining the family business and having to bluff my way through it.”

Min knew all too well how lies could get you in a pickle.

“I could hint that you have something you want to talk to him about. Maybe prep him a bit.”

“Would you?”

“Sure.”

“Oh Min, that would be great. Usually when I try to talk to him, I say the wrong thing and we end up fighting, but if you’ve already kind of briefed him…”

Min wasn’t sure how she’d raise it, but she’d find a way. Now the brothers were getting on so much better, she knew she had to. “Leave it with me, Beau.”

Beau grinned, and Min felt a warm glow in her chest. It was so nice to see the young dragon genuinely excited and happy. Gone was his sulky look. These days, he’d bounce up to the dinner table each night, and he never came home wasted. The garden was looking lovely, no burned bushes.

She loved what he was doing, and how dedicated he was to it. She wanted to help in any way she could.

If she timed it right, Min was sure she could get Ethan to understand.

“I declare, I’ve never seen my two boys happier together than they are right now!” Cressida, sitting across the dinner table from them, smiled. Reaching across, she took both her sons’ hands.

Beau spluttered something about her being the most embarrassing mom ever, while Ethan gazed at Min, and under the table squeezed her hand with his free one. His tail rested gently against her lower leg, and occasionally he let it flick higher, up to her inner thigh, watching the flush of desire build in her cheeks.

Later he would take her, leisurely, giving her a full body massage with his tail, before his mouth would suckle and tease the tight little bud of her clit and his tongue would work her to a screaming orgasm.

The thought sent pleasure rippling down his spine and he hardened. He forced himself to focus on the conversation.

“Good to see you knuckling down to your studies, Beau,” he observed.

A definite look passed between Beau and Min. Ethan’s brows furrowed. “Are you two plotting something?” He waggled his browbone at Beau. “If you think you’re going to move in on my girl, mate, that is taking brotherly love too far.”

Min giggled. “Beau, you’re gorgeous, but I’m sorry, I’m already taken.”

Beau threw his napkin at her. “Don’t worry, I’m not pining. There’s a queue of others, let me tell you,” he snorted good-naturedly.

“La la la la, too much information!” Cressida put her hands over her ears. “You’re still a dragonling to me, Beau.”

They all laughed, and warmth filled Ethan’s chest. Since Min had been here, Beau really had changed. He seemed to be studying hard in his room most evenings, and there’d been no more incidents in the garden.

He couldn’t get over how much he adored this woman, and the effect her presence had on all their lives. Mom was calmer than he’d seen her in years, and she seemed happier in her own skin.

Earlier that night, as they dressed for dinner, he’d asked Min, “What do you talk to my mom about?”

“Oh, this and that. How much she loved your dad. What you were like as dragonlings. All the attempts she’s made to shift over the years.”

“Has she told you how much she’s spent on therapies?”

“Not in detail, but I got the impression she’s tried a lot of different things. It means a lot to her, Ethan.”

“Yeah, I know, but she seems to be coming to terms with it a bit better now. And Beau, he’s been really knuckling down to his studies.”

He’d sensed her hesitate. “I think he wants to talk to you about that. When he does, try and listen properly, Ethan. Give him a chance to explain.”

He’d promised her he would, so now, as the dinner plates were removed, when Beau said, “Can I show you something I’ve been working on?” Ethan said, “Sure, I’d love to take a look.”

Beau dashed out of the room and soon came back with his laptop under his wing.
