Placing it on the table, he flipped it open. Ethan expected to see an essay Beau wanted him to read over, maybe add a few points to.

But what was on the screen were a whole lot of graphics.

Beautifully drawn images of dragons, intricate in their design, exquisite in their execution.

Ethan stiffened. “What’s this got to do with your course?”

“I didn’t say it was about my course. It’s a game.”

“You know I don’t approve of you gaming,” Ethan growled. “Total waste of time that could be spent productively. Don’t tell me when I thought you were studying, you’ve been gaming.”

“Please, just listen Ethan,” Min pleaded, her hand on his arm. “Let Beau explain.”

Remembering his promise to her earlier, Ethan sat, arms crossed, as Beau flicked through different graphics of beautifully drawn characters.

“What is this all about, Beau?” he finally gritted out, unable to hold in his exasperation any longer. “Where did all these images come from?”

“I drew them.”

“What the fuck!” Ethan stared harder at the screen. “But these are… professional.”

“Are you implying I can’t do something professionally?” Beau huffed.

“No, it’s just—when did you learn to draw like this?”

Beau’s lip curled. “Years ago. You never took any notice.”

“These graphics are yours?”

“Yes, for a game me and my friends have been building,” Beau said defensively.

“When?”

Beau’s head tilted back, his nostrils flaring as his eyes met his brother’s challengingly. “For the last few months.”

“When you should have been studying?” Ethan sputtered, flames coursing out of each nostril.

“Yeah, and you know what? I’m proud of that,” Beau gritted out.

“Oh, Beau.” Their mom, who’d been looking over their shoulders, joined in. “These are amazing drawings.”

Ethan was aware of Min, very quiet and still at his side. “Did you know about this?”

She nodded.

“And you think this is okay? Beau spending his time doodling?”

“Doodling!” Beau spluttered.

“I think it’s great, if you want my honest answer,” Min said.

Ethan raked a claw over his head scales. “I’m paying for his damn education.”

“Well,” said Min, calmly, “maybe you should stop.”

Ethan couldn’t believe his ears. Was Min actually supporting Beau with this nonsense?

Beau’s mouth went sulky. “If you’re worried about the money, I’ll put my trust fund money into it.”
