Mason smirked. “Does it feel like we haven’t seen each other in that long to you? Because to me, it feels like you were just spread out beneath us yesterday. If you knew how many times I’ve thought about you since that night, you’d understand why it’s so easy for us to pick up where we left off.”

A bell rang and startled me out of whatever I was going to say. I spun around and found that through the glass doors, I could see students moving about. The older grades were switching classes. Looking back at the guys, I found each of them smiling back at me. I barely resisted the urge to check my face for crumbs. “What?”

Ben shook his head and nodded towards the doors. “You’re cute when you’re flustered. Now, come on. Let’s go see what’s up with our son.”

My heart fluttered and I pressed my hand over it, like that would calm the silly thing down.

Justin took my other hand and pressed it over his own racing heart. “We’re all feeling it, Vi. We have a son together. I don’t know if I’ll ever hear that and not feel a rush of adrenaline. I know it hasn’t been what we would’ve wanted up until this point, but that all changes now.”

CHAPTER 11

Justin

Violet walked into the school ahead of us and it took every ounce of my control to not stare at her full ass. We were walking into a school and it made me feel like a creep thinking anything remotely sexual. Still, her long legs and juicy thighs disappearing under the hem of that short dress made it hard not to stare. She’d always been beautiful, but she’d somehow gotten even more so than the recurring dream version of her in my head. Her body was curvier now, her breasts fuller. She’d gotten sexier since our night together and it was wreaking havoc on my thoughts.

I nearly walked over her as she stopped at the front desk, where an eagle-eyed older woman stared at us. I smiled and nodded at her, suddenly overcome with a worry that I’d never felt before. Did we look like dads? I knew the three of us didn’t exactly look like teddy bears, but at least Mason and I smiled often enough to ease people’s concerns. Would the woman sitting at the desk even trust us to be inside the school?

“Hi. I’m Violet Channing. I was called about my son, Forrest.” Violet fidgeted, clearly worried.

I could remember my mom being called to the school to hear a laundry list of shit I’d done that day. She’d always ripped me a new one for disturbing her. As I studied Violet’s profile, I tried to imagine her snapping at Forrest and couldn’t.

“Oh, yes. I’ll page Ms. Jenny and have her come down to meet with you. Forrest is sitting outside the principal’s office if you’d like to wait with him.” The woman pointed us in the right direction and I had to make myself walk slowly behind Violet. All I wanted to do was run to Forrest and look at him.

The moment Violet spotted him, her shoulders dropped a solid two inches. She’d been worried. She hurried over to him and knelt in front of him, putting strain on the bottom of the dress that was hard to look away from. “Are you okay?”

I knew Ben and Mason were feeling the same thing I was. Our parents never would’ve checked on us first. Seeing Violet drop down to Forrest’s level and ask if he was okay made a lump form in my throat. She was a good mom. If things had to happen the way they did, at least Forrest had had her for the beginning of his life.

Forrest shrugged. “I’m okay, Mom.”

She pushed his hair behind his ears and cupped his cheeks. “You don’t have to say you’re okay if you don’t feel that way, baby. Tell me what you’re really feeling.”

I watched as the boy did something most adults couldn’t. He took a deep breath and thought for a moment before answering his mother. “I’m mad. I’m scared, too.”

Violet nodded. “Thank you for telling me that. What are you scared of?”

“That you’re going to be mad at me.” He looked up and spotted us for the first time. That spoke to how thoroughly he’d been focused on his mom, because we weren’t easy to miss. He looked like he had questions but Violet regained his focus when she spoke.

“You know being mad is a completely normal thing. Even if I did get mad, it would never last very long and we would always talk about it afterwards. Just like when you got mad at me last week, right?” She waited for him to nod and then pressed on. “I love you through all of my emotions. Wanna tell me what you’re mad about?”

Before he could answer, a woman I recognized from around town walked up to us. She looked confused at seeing the three of us there with Violet, but everyone was going to have to get used to it. We weren’t going anywhere.

Violet stood up and adjusted her uniform before smiling tightly at Jenny. “Hi, Ms. Jenny. I got here as fast as I could.”

“I’m sorry to have to take you away from work, but this was an urgent matter. Principal Boyd is ready for us, so if you’ll just follow me. You, too, Forrest.”

Violet noticed the way the teacher was eyeing us suspiciously and tugged at the bottom of her uniform again. “I’m not sure if you know my friends. Ben, Mason, and Justin will be joining us today. I’m living over their garage and they’re helping out.”

I didn’t like being called her friend, but I understood she couldn’t be honest with the teacher. I nodded at the other woman again and amped up the charm in my smile. “I’ve seen you around town. We don’t get out much, though, so we haven’t officially met. It’s nice to meet you, Jenny.”

The blush on her cheeks made me take a step closer to Violet. Violet, however, took a step away from us and frowned as she watched Jenny smile at us. Violet didn’t seem to like the teacher giving us that flirty smile. Was it possible that our little flower was jealous?

I met Ben’s eyes and I could tell by the way he smirked he thought she was, too. Mason, never one to shy away from saying whatever he wanted, easily reached down and took Violet’s hand. “We’re very, very good friends.”

Violet’s face went bright red but she didn’t snatch her hand away. Not until it was clear Jenny got the message. I couldn’t wait to have that conversation at a later date. Even though she’d surely deny it, Violet had a jealous streak.

Jenny clasped her hands together and nodded. “If you’d all follow me.”

We did just that and ended up cramped inside Adam Boyd’s office. Boyd had been involved with the training facility while we went through our paces there and he’d been power hungry then. I could only imagine how much he liked lording it over all the children and teachers under his command.
