“You’re pouting a lot for a woman who just came all over my face.” Standing, I adjusted my hard-on in my pants and then gripped the back of her head. Pulling her mouth to mine, I kissed her hard, letting her taste herself. She melted into my chest, going pliant for me just the way I loved. I wrapped my other arm around her and held her soft body against my own. “I don’t want to let you go.”

She pressed kisses to my chin and down the front of my throat. “I don’t want you to.”

Growling, I eased her away from me and nodded at the door. “Go, Vi. I’ll be down in a few minutes.”

She slowly backed away and glanced down at my pants. “Are you going to—”

“Woman. You’re killing me. I’m trying to be responsible.” I took a ragged breath and backed away from her. My hands shook with the need to grab her and yank her back to me. “I don’t want our son to think I’m a creep before he gets to know me.”

Her eyes softened as she gazed up at me with a crooked smile on her face. “He’s already crazy about you, Mason. Like mother, like son.”

I stared at the door after she slipped out and walked over to press my forehead against it while grinding my teeth together. I wanted to chase her down and rut her wherever we landed. I wanted her pregnant with more babies and I wanted her under our roof with our son. Maybe we didn’t know everything about each other, but I knew that she was meant to be ours.

CHAPTER 23

Violet

After dessert, we all decided to walk General and Captain together. Captain had managed to steal a whole slice of cake while no one was watching and he’d shared just enough with General that the farts were filling the house with toxic fumes. I felt bad for the guys. They had to go back inside and live in an enclosed space with General.

Mason and Justin were jogging with Forrest and General, all four of them burning off cake energy. Ben and I walked Captain at a slower pace. I didn’t know if Ben felt as sick as I did after gorging on the delicious cake, but I had a feeling Captain was right there with me. Neither of us were going to ever lose those last few pounds if we kept eating cake like we were. It did make me feel extra attached to the dog, though. Being around the guys, I was surrounded by muscles and tight asses. I needed Captain to feel like I even remotely fit in.

Ben had finally let me have Captain’s leash, but he kept his hand on my lower back with a fistful of my sweater bunched in it. It seemed he was terrified Captain was going to drag me away. Captain was being great, though.

I smiled down at the giant dog and patted his head. “You’re such a good boy, Cap. Don’t let Ben make you feel like you’re not. You hear me? You’re a good boy.”

Ben held my sweater tighter and grunted down at me. Walking down the sidewalk next to me, he somehow felt even larger as he kept me away from the street, using his mass as though he could protect me from a car if it came our way. “He dragged Justin once. He saw a squirrel and took off before Justin noticed, so Just wasn’t ready. I happened to look out the window and saw Justin flying by. Literally.”

I giggled. “Was he okay?”

He pulled me to a stop as we came to a tiny road we needed to cross. “Nice try, trying to pretend like you were worried about him. I’m going to tell him you laughed before checking on him.”

I leaned into his side and smiled. I’d been doing that so much my face was starting to hurt. “Obviously, I can see that he’s fine.”

Ben stroked his hand into my hair and leaned down until we were eye to eye. “You’re so beautiful, Vi.”

My heart thumped wildly in my chest. “Where’d that come from?”

He searched my face and slowly kissed me, moving his mouth over mine gently, like I was something precious to be cherished. When I let out a breathy sigh, his knuckles dug into my back and I felt his body stiffen while he held me even tighter. Tipping his head back slightly, he met my eyes. “I’ve looked twice at every red head I’ve seen since meeting you, hoping one of them would be you. You have no idea what that was like. So, when I see a red head in front of me now and it’s actually you, I feel like fucking cheering, Vi. Instead of feeling disappointed like I have every time for the last six years, I feel elated. I can’t look at you and not think about how beautiful you are.”

I stared up at him with my mouth agape. I was speechless. No one had ever said anything like that to me and I was smitten. More than.

He cleared his throat and loosened his hold on me. “So, yeah. That’s where it came from.”

I stretched up on my tip toes and kissed him. Gripping the front of his shirt, I rubbed my nose against his in a gesture that was probably way too much. “I do know what that was like. I looked for you, too. Each time a man approached me who wasn’t one of you three, I felt like screaming. Everyone else was a disappointment.”

He slid his hand down to my ass. “I fucking hate that men approached you. I hate we weren’t there to rip their arms off for even thinking of touching you.”

Smiling, I raised my eyebrows. “If I allowed myself to think of the women you did touch, I’d probably feel like ripping things off, too. I don’t want to borrow trouble, though.”

His face fell. “If I’d known there was a chance of finding you… Things would’ve been different.”

“Ben, it’s okay. You didn’t owe me anything. I’m not upset about any of that stuff. If I’d ever found anyone attractive and slept with them, I know you all would be the same.”

His grip on my ass tightened. “I wouldn’t be so sure about that. You don’t understand how much it satisfies every caveman urge in us to know that no other man has ever seen you naked or touched you. To know that all of you is one hundred percent ours… It’s a heady feeling, Vi.”

A loud growl from beside us drew our attention and I jumped. Looking down at Captain, I found him staring up at us, stomping his feet. I laughed and stepped away from Ben. “We’d better keep walking before he really throws a tantrum.”

Ben resumed his grip on my sweater and grunted. “He’s ruining my vibe right now.”
