Mason stretched and yawned. “I don’t mean to be an asshole, but you’re ours. You can move however you want because at the end of the day, you’re going to be right here with us. We’re going to do right by you, Violet. Go ahead and give it up because we’re going to prove to you we’re everything you need.”

Violet was quiet for a moment and then she giggled. “Okay, then.”

Ben looked at me and rolled his eyes. “I guess that was all it took? I could’ve done that.”

“Oh. Mom said something else last night.”

I groaned. “What now?”

“She said I needed to tell Forrest that you guys are his dads. The faster, the better.” She glanced back at me and raised her eyebrows. “You’re lucky you’re cute even when you’re unfairly sassy.”

My heart thumped harder. “Are you going to tell him?”

“I was hoping we could do something tonight.”

The three of us were suddenly wide awake and over the moon. Ben’s smile was as big as I’d ever seen it. “Tonight? Hell, yes! I’ll get balloons.”

“Balloons?” Violet laughed full out and shook her head. “I don’t think we need balloons.”

“Well, I’m getting balloons.” He picked her up and spun her around. “Thank you, Vi.”

Mason looked at his watch and pulled out his phone. “I know a cake lady. I’m getting a cake.”

“I’ll get pizza.” I thought about what all I wanted Forrest to have. “And toys.”

“Okay, okay. There’s no need to go nuts. He’s going to be so happy just to know that you’re his fathers. Nothing else will matter.” She backed towards her open door. “I have to go to work now. Are you guys sure tonight will work? If you’re still busy with work, just say so.”

I shook my head even as Ben spoke. “Tonight is perfect. We’ll take care of everything. You and Forrest can just show up.”

“Let us take care of you two.” I kissed her red lips and breathed in the fresh scent of her. “Let us in, Vi. We’re begging here.”

She nodded. “I’m trying.”

CHAPTER 35

Violet

The day had stretched on and on. My nerves were on high alert, despite the guys’ reassurances. I was terrified of telling Forrest. I had to do it and I’d loved seeing how happy it made the guys, but I was scared of what it would mean for me and Forrest. He’d officially no longer be just mine.

By the time the day ended, I was a sweaty mess, despite the dropping temperatures. I’d spilled two cups of coffee on myself and even managed to lean right onto a slice of pie. I was stained and gross. I didn’t want to face anyone in the state I was in so I had my parents pick up Forrest and I rushed home to take a long shower.

More nerves plagued me as I dried off. I felt an incessant need to look nice for telling my son who his dads were. I changed clothes a dozen times and took my time curling my hair and putting on makeup like I hadn’t in years. When I left to pick up Forrest, I was in a short dress and boots. The dress had long sleeves, but it did nothing to combat the cold. I was freezing and incredibly overdressed for a pizza party.

That thought was cemented when Forrest ran out of my parent’s motel room and stopped dead in his tracks when he saw me. His eyes widened and he stammered for a moment before finding his words. “Are you going to church, Mommy?”

I met my mom’s eyes over his head and blushed. “No, baby. We’re just going to dinner with Justin, Ben, and Mason.”

“And General and Captain?”

Mom gave me a thumbs up as I backed away with Forrest. “Call me later.”

“You’ll be asleep.”

She laughed. “I’m staying up for this.”

I groaned when my nerves flamed even higher. “Great.”

In the car on the way home, Forrest peppered me with questions. “What are we doing? What’s for dinner? Can I have ice cream tonight? Grandpa let me have ice cream last night.”
