“I don’t know what you’re talking about. I didn’t moan over the lube. And I was just glancing at the toys. There’s nothing different about me.” I sat on a pink crushed velvet couch and smiled sweetly. “I did happen to notice my neighbors are back in town, though.”

Joanie came out of the bathroom and stripped her shirt off. She pulled on one of Margaret’s extra Good, Clean Fun shirts and grunted as she sat down next to me. “Be careful if they ask you to sniff the new lube.”

Margaret waved Joanie off and her intense gaze focused on me. Her unlined face was a bit too secretive for me to believe it was an accident I’d ended up living in the rental property of the men I’d been looking for six years ago. I’d only ever mentioned their first names to her and only once, the day I’d looked for them. I didn’t doubt she could’ve remembered and set me up, though.

“You got very lucky, getting that rental before anyone else. There’s a lot of women in this valley who would love to be that close to those three.” She smiled and studied her hot pink nails. “Benjamin McCormick, Justin Jones, and Mason Parker… Those men are beautiful, aren’t they?”

Joanie snorted. “Is that a real question?”

I shrugged. “Are they nice? I’m living above their garage, so I probably should’ve asked before now.”

“Super nice.” Joanie leaned closer to me. “Great guys with great asses. You can’t beat that.”

“Are they seeing anyone?” I did my best to look relaxed and unbothered, but I was on the edge of my seat.

“Nope. They stick to themselves most of the time.” Studying me, Joanie grinned. “They’re always so sweet, though. Ben used to scare people because of how serious he always looks, but he’s kind. I bet they’d be good with kids…”

I choked on my croissant and rushed over to grab a glass of fresh lemonade. I guzzled most of a glass and then poured myself more before turning back to face the women who were all watching me a little too closely. I looked everywhere but at them while I drank more, but my eyes kept going to different sex toys. My body reacted to seeing them and I wondered if I’d hit my head the night before.

“They’re good men.” Coco’s face didn’t change when I yelped in her face. She’d managed to get right next to me without making a sound. “They hired me when no one else would. Agist pigs make it hard for women like me to work.”

Margaret didn’t bat an eye at how much Coco had just spoken, but Joanie looked just as floored and I felt. Then Coco’s words registered in my horny brain.

“You work for them? Doing what?” I heard the women giggling and looked at where they were looking to see that my hand was idly stroking the PumpMaster 2000’s smaller cousin, Thumper 300. I jerked my hand away and glared down at it. “What the hell is wrong with me?”

Coco shrugged at me. “Security.”

Margaret clapped her hands and stood as she heard another secret knock on the front door. “I think things are going to get interesting around here.”

Joanie shuddered and stood up. “On that note, I think I’ll head over to the diner and see how Chase is doing with opening on his own.”

I nodded. “Yeah, I’ll come with you. It’s almost time for me to start, anyway.”

Brenda giggled. “Chickens. Don’t think leaving will save you from whatever Margaret has planned for you.”

“She has plans?” I squeaked and clutched Joanie’s arm. “Plans sound scary, right?”

Joanie shuddered again. “Plans sound like I need to move states.”

CHAPTER 8

Violet

The One and Only had been a faux vintage monstrosity when I’d stepped inside six years earlier. Joanie bought it a couple of years after my visit and she’d turned it into something wholesome and fun. The large glass front let visitors see into the vintage diner and the view was pretty spectacular. The booths were all newly upholstered in a cream color that matched the barstools at the new bar she’d installed. It was classic, instead of the gaudy it had been. She’d even changed out the stained black and white checkerboard floor for a vinyl wood flooring which felt softer underfoot when you had to stand on it for six hours straight.

My favorite thing she’d added was a pie case. I’d only seen them in movies before moving to Lilyfield. The fresh pies she kept inside filled the restaurant with a buttery scent that was renewed every time the case was opened. It was a miracle I hadn’t gained twenty pounds since starting, just from how hard I sniffed at the pies.

The only thing I wasn’t obsessed about was the uniform. To stick to the vintage theme, the uniform was a pink and cream button-up dress which stopped mid-thigh and white sneakers. The small apron I had to wear over the dress was frilly and made me feel even sillier. Joanie wore the uniform when she worked the floor and she looked amazing. Her long legs were probably one of the reasons she’d chosen the style. It always seemed I was always one gentle breeze away from losing a button and flashing everyone my tits. Or my ass. My curvy figure felt like it tried to eat the dress, but Joanie swore up and down I looked great and she wouldn’t let me wear it if I looked bad. I liked her, but I wasn’t sure I trusted her that much yet.

That morning, I wasn’t in the mood to deal with Jacob Green, an employee at the local military training facility, but I was the only waitress working, since Chase had gone into hiding as soon as he’d seen help arrive. Jacob was very important and impressive, so he’d told me. So important he didn’t feel the need to tip, because clearly his presence was present enough. He also ogled my chest and I was half sure I’d caught him praying for my buttons to fail one morning. Every day of the two weeks I’d worked at The One and Only, I’d had to deal with him.

He sat at the bar and leaned over it to get his own menu, like he needed one. Joanie had cut the menu down when she took over. It was simple, delicious, and required no fresh glance if you’d been there more than twice. It was like Jacob wanted to feel special, so he made a show of reaching behind the bar. Like he was allowed to when no one else was, but really, no one else was that rude.

I stopped in front of him and forced a smile. “Morning, Jacob. Do you want your usual?”

He grinned up at me and spoke to my chest. “I’m craving a little something extra this morning. What do you eat here, honey?”

Joanie had been passing by and she stopped when she heard him. “Her name’s Violet. Or you can call her ma’am. You’re not an old man who can pull that shit off, Jacob.”
