And when I opened my eyes, I found all four men staring up at me.

“Wow,” Brody whispered.

Dean smiled from ear to ear. “Told you that you could do it, Raven.”

“Are you in any pain?” Levi asked.

I pivoted my head toward his voice and caught my wolf’s reflection in his hazel eyes.

No, I’m not in any pain.

Hudson chuckled. “I see she has the hive mind, too.”

Dean shook his head. “I never thought for one second that she wouldn’t.”

Wait, you guys can hear my thoughts?

Dean nodded. “It’s the hive mind of the pack. Whether in wolf or human form, we can hear all of the thoughts of those that are also in shifter form, too. It’s how we communicate. But it doesn't trigger until after the first shift.”

She looks beautiful.

Levi’s voice caught me off-guard, and I gazed into his eyes. The grin upon his cheeks told me everything I needed to know, and yet for some reason it felt like I had intruded upon a statement he hadn’t wanted me to hear. He reached out his hand and slid it down my neck, petting me with the full force of his hand. And as I tilted my left ear toward him, he scratched behind it.

Which caused my back right leg to quiver.

So cute.

We should shift with her. Have a nice run.

I bet she could carry the weight of the world on that back.

She’s ready to hunt. She has to be hungry.

And as their thoughts bombarded my mind all at once, I found myself growing addicted to it. Hearing their thoughts? All the time? It gave me a powerful high I had never experienced in my entire life. It was greater than live television. Greater than digging up the salacious secrets of the rich and famous. It was more than I could’ve ever wanted or wished for, despite the confusion and the newness of it all. But I shoved it away for the time being. I mean, if I wasn’t going to be their pack alpha for the rest of my days, then technically none of that mattered.

No matter how good it felt at that moment.

LEVI

Good girl.

To say I was impressed was an understatement. The struggle of a wolf was fierce at times, and some had it worse than others. My wolf had always been a struggle. The fierceness and the predatory nature of my own animalistic form had always given me problems. And yet, Raven had handled things like champ. She had grasped her wolf form by the fucking balls, and for the first time since Colin had been killed, a spark of hope ignited itself within my chest.

“Who’s up for a nice leg wag?” Hudson asked.

Before any of us could answer, he balled his fists up at his sides. He gnashed his teeth together and exploded into an all-black wolf with onyx eyes that he held deep within him. Many in our pack called him “Demon Dog,” especially with the way his coat seemed to glisten with a soft aura of red.

And as Dean and Brody quickly shifted themselves, I found myself walking over to the front door.

“Now, let’s see if you fat asses can squeeze through this doorway.”

Hey, now. Watch yourself.

Raven’s voice made me smirk. “I’d never dream of addressing you in such a way, alpha.”

One by one, they snaked their way through the oversized entrance that I remembered Colin reconstructing with his bare hands when we were but little pups. I pulled my shirt over my head before bursting to life, morphing into a wolfish form that I barely indulged since Colin’s death. The grief had been too much, but seeing Raven in her natural form filled me with an unexplainable sort of hope. Hope that we’d be led by someone destined to root us to the ground. Hope that our pack wouldn’t fall apart after Colin’s death. Hope that my wolf would be less feral and more kind to me in the evenings.
