Keep hunting.

“I KNEW YOU’D LIKE ME!”

A grin spread across my face as I charged forward. I breathed in the fresh air through my lungs as the anxiety of my human mind faded away. I leapt over the tops of trees as if they were nothing but downed logs. The earth shook with every slap of my four paws against the ground. Dean was to my left, keeping up with me and huffing for air as he dug into the ground to thrust himself forward.

But as my childhood home came into sight, so did my anxieties.

“You really hate yourself, huh?”

I growled as I quickly shifted back into my human form, leaping myself onto the porch. I charged through the front door and took the stairs, two by two, in search of a fresh set of clothes to put against my naked body. I had no idea how in the hell these men shifted back into their human forms and somehow found themselves clothed. Maybe it was their magic or some deal they had made with the devil. But either way, I needed to cover my tits.

“Raven?” Dean called out as he crashed through the entrance. “You okay!?”

I pulled a long t-shirt out of my suitcase. “Just a second! Gotta get some clothes on.”

Just as quickly as my anxiety had faded away, my hands trembled. A cold chill usurped my body, causing me to shake even though I didn’t feel cold. I ran my fingers through my hair and gathered my tendrils at the crown of my head. I needed space to think. I needed space to parse through things.

But as Dean leaned against the doorway of my childhood bedroom, the intensity of his gaze warmed my lower back.

“I feel you staring,” I said as I turned around.

His gaze slowly trickled up my body. “You’re still unsure, aren’t you?”

With my hair pushed back behind my ears, my hands dropped to my sides. “Don’t get me wrong, you guys have been great.”

He pushed off the doorway and came into my bedroom. “You remember the time I first snuck in here?”

I smiled softly as he approached me. “Through the window, yeah. I remember.”

“I was bringing you that book from the library.”

“Hadn’t I been grounded because of something?”

Dean perched on the edge of the double bed, and it groaned beneath his weight. “You talked back to your mother.”

I whistled lowly. “It was the first time I told her I had hated her. Dad wasn’t a fan.”

He chuckled. “I’d assume not.”

My gaze met his stare. “I’m surprised you remember that.”

He shrugged. “It was a good night. I remember all of the good nights I had with you.”

My shoulders slumped a bit. “I’m not my father, Dean. I don’t know if I can do any of this.”

“And that’s okay.”

“I don’t know how to be a good wolf. I don’t know how to lead a pack. I don’t know any of this stuff.”

“That’s okay, too.”

My voice hardened. “None of that is okay, what are you talking about?”

He stood to his feet and my gaze followed his towering stature. “Do you want to know what I think?”

I leaned against the wall behind me. “Do I have much choice?”

“No.”
