When I was taken, I was worried that I would die, or be tortured, or worse. But once Caspian arrived, the focus of my fear shifted. I was no longer worried about anything to do with me. I was afraid that something would happen to him, that I might lose him. In the moment that felt worse than anything they could’ve done to me.

It wasn’t the normal fear I feel when Caspian shows up. The fun fear that kickstarts my heart. The type of fear that makes me feel alive.

This was blind terror. The type of fear that paralyzes you. The horrifying fear that has you convinced that the worst has come and will never go away. Until those chains fell off my body, fear that I would have to watch Caspian die infected every moment.

I can’t lose Caspian. Ever. That much I know for a fact. I may be his, but I think I also want him to be mine.

“Time to go home?” Ren calls from a bit away. “This was probably all of them, but I’d rather not stick around for some more of their friends to show up.”

“Yes, I think that’s smart,” Rory says. “Let’s go.”

I start to feel her magic wrap around me. Like a warm invisible hug. That is until Caspian’s icy hold on me tightens. He pulls away and the magic fades away.

“She’s coming home with me.” Caspian’s voice has a commanding calm energy to it, you’d never guess he was just in a huge battle. To her credit, Rory doesn’t back down.

“No? Are you crazy? She needs to go to a hospital. We have no idea the extent of her injuries.”

“I can take care of her better than any of your doctors.”

“Rory,” I whisper to her. I grab her hand back and squeeze it softly. “I’ll be fine. Trust me.”

“Quinn…” Rory takes a deep breath. “Fine. But you, Caspian, where are you taking her?”

“I’ll be takin her home.”

“Yeah, I got that asshole.” Somewhere out of my view, I hear Ren chuckle at that. “I want an address. I’ll be checking up on Quinn every-”

My mind goes blank. The war of words between Caspian and Quinn over me is sure to be epic but I can’t focus on that. Did Caspian say he was taking me ‘home?’ As in his home?

A thrill races through my body. My heart starts to race. I’ve never seen his place before. He’s only ever come to my apartment.

This is a huge step for us. A level of intimate that I never assumed Caspian and I would ever reach. I was content with him just appearing in my bedroom in the dead of night for the rest of my life.

Caspian must have won the argument because he starts to carry me away. I look back at Rory as we leave and can see the hesitance still on her face. But I say nothing more to help her feel better. I don’t want to risk ruining what’s coming for Caspian and I.

QUINN

Iam safe at last. Caspian lays me down on my bed, treating the spots on my skin where the chains wound tight around my skin. We have a home together, and I’m fully moved in, but the lease on my apartment still isn’t up, so we sometimes still come here to see each other, as a quaint reminder of the world I left behind, and the world Caspian is still acquainting himself with.

I bite my lip, as he pours alcohol on my skin, and I feel immense pain from the wounds that weren’t bothering me.

“We cannot allow these wounds to develop infections,” he tells me. “It will all be over soon, I assure you.”

“Okay.”

He is sprawled out on top of me, and I am pinned to the bed beneath him. The only thought that is crossing my mind right now is that I want him inside of me - to feel his throbbing member pulsating inside me as his weight presses down on top of me.

But he would tell me that I need to heal first.

From on top of me, he kisses me gently, first on my forehead, then down to my neck, where he sees where they pierced me.

“This is an abomination,” he tells me angrily. “When you’re better, I will reclaim you for myself. I cannot believe they did that to you.”

“How long do you think that will be?” I ask him calmly. I feel urgency - a sense of needing him desperately, for having been apart so long.

“Wait here,” he tells me. He takes a shirt from out of my dresser and wraps it around my eyes, my vision going black. “Until I return, rest.”
