"I can't leave my friends."

"You don't have to." Standing to my feet, I extended my hand while she stared at it, mulling her options.

"Fine, but can we keep that little run in between us? My friends will lose it, and I want to have fun tonight."

"Let's go have fun," I agreed because she didn't have shit else to worry about. At least not tonight. Hailo was safe with me.

"Does Baby have a name?" she giggled, completely embarrassed, letting me know she didn't do this often.

"Gi."

Hailo nodded, guiding me through the crowd to locate her friends while my hands held her waist. Hailo introduced me, and while Niyomi was skeptical, Denim was ready to party. The four of us made our way upstairs, where Hailo remained close. Whatever I gave off lowered her guard.

"Yo, you good?" Mack asked, tapping my arm.

"I'm straight," I chuckled at the concern on his face. I knew why but I asked anyway. "Why? Are you good?"

"You all hugged up with 'ole girl. That ain't like you no matter how fine she is."

"I'm chilling.” Hailo already had me outside of myself, and that could be dangerous.

"I should've known your ass would beat me to her," Tyson inserted himself into the conversation.

"Fuck is that supposed to mean?" I shot Tyson a furious glance, feeling like he had taken a shot at my character. We were cousins by blood, but they were my brothers. I'd never cross them, especially over pussy. I had no intention of doing anything other than enjoying her beauty from afar. Hailo chose me, not the other way around.

"I ain't mean it like that nigga. You know I'm not tripping off that. I got my eye on something else anyway," Tyson playfully hit my chest, wearing a smile, but I learned early that all smiles weren't friendly.

For now, I dropped the subject as he began giving his attention to another woman. She fit his type, and that's likely where he'd end his evening.

"Are you okay?" Hailo entered my space, puzzled by the stern expression on my face.

"He's better than okay," Mack joked, answering her question before I could.

Her perfect brows dipped, in confusion at his jab, causing me to shake my head.

"Ignore him," I leaned into her ear the same way she did me earlier. Hailo nodded, and I could feel the heat rushing up her cheeks from here.

I had smiled more tonight than I had since the demise of my relationship. Peering over my shoulder while gyrating my hips into Gi’s center, I didn't have a care in the world.

I had never been this friendly and comfortable with a man I'd just met, but an invisible web of attraction was building between us. I couldn't explain it, and despite our relationship being shallow, it felt deeper than the world's largest ocean.

"I gotta handle something. I'll be back," I cleared my throat, pretending not to be affected by the deep huskiness of Gi's tone in my ear.

Nodding, Gi kissed my forehead. He smiled, exposing his perfect white teeth that contrasted with his chocolate skin, before walking to his cousins.

Denim approached me, wiping imaginary tears that caused me to shake my head. I knew something crazy was about to come out of her mouth, yet I still asked, “What, Denim?”

“I’m just so proud. My bitch is back and bossed the fuck up,” she cheered, leaning against the rail where I was standing.

"Shut up, D."

"He is fine, girl. I'm not mad at it," Niyomi agreed, not that there was much debate when it came to that. Gi was like a walking God- tall, muscular physique, and the tool to match how it felt pressed against me.

"That means a lot coming from this one."

"What is that supposed to mean?" Niyomi shrieked.

"You worry too much, mom," Denim replied before I could respond.
