“Mack isn’t my man, and I’ve been talking my shit.”

That’s what her mouth said but I saw her eyes light up when I mentioned him. The same way he lit up when I asked him how long they had been fucking around. If that’s the lie they wanted to run with, so be it.

“So y’all just fucking?”

“What Mack and I do is none of your business.”

“He must be doing it well to have your evil ass grinning,”

“I’m not evil. I don’t take your shit, and you hate it.”

“Real shit, I’m happy for you. You’re good people, so you deserve it. Mack is solid. Stubborn but a good dude.”

“Wow, I must’ve made that drink a little too strong. That was the nicest thing you’ve ever said to me,” Sky’s hand rested on her chest before wiping an imaginary tear.

“It’s going to be the last too.”

“Thank you, Tyson. You can have the same thing, you know.”

“Maybe. I’m out.”

“I hope you’re headed to apologize to Gi. Accountability is the first step to healing.”

“Sounds like you’re speaking from experience.”

“A little. I made some bad decisions because I was hurt. I wanted to blame everybody else but had to look in the mirror. I put myself in those positions despite people not treating me right. I had to own that.”

“I appreciate the advice, Sky.” Dropping a few bills on the counter, I slid them to her before making my way out.

Hopping into my car, I started to drive home, but Sky’s voice replayed in my head. I tried to ignore it, but it became louder to the point that I hit a U-turn and headed for Gianni’s house. Kyerra was still blowing me up, but I tucked my phone in my pocket, ignoring her pleas for me to call her back.

Taking a deep breath, I pressed the doorbell and anxiously awaited. Hailo opened the door, she didn't greet me the way she usually did, Mack. Instead, she looked me up and down in contempt.

“What do you want?” Hailo finally asked

“Wassup Lo. Is Gi here?”

Stepping aside, she allowed me in. Hailo’s discontent was evident as she called Gianni from the foyer, still watching my every move. He rounded the corner and seemed just as surprised as Hailo was when she opened the door.

“I need to holla at you.”

Hailo rolled her eyes and turned to leave when Gi pulled her into him, planting a sloppy kiss on her cheek before she wiggled free and walked upstairs. Gianni was resistant but finally motioned me to follow him to the basement, where he spent most of his time. That much hadn’t changed, but it didn’t look like the man cave I once remembered. There were sprinkles of Serenity throughout the room, from the bassinet against the wall to the swing in the corner.

“Is she always like that?” I asked, referring to Hailo’s attitude.

“Just to you,” he replied, taking a seat.

“I guess I deserve that,” I immediately poured myself a drink. I was going to need it to get through my speech.

“Wassup Ty?” Gianni asked because it had been a while since I dropped by. Especially without calling first.

“This ain’t my thing, so I’ll make it quick. Kyerra and I were fucking around before I left. Nobody knew, but then I got back, and she showed up to dinner with you. It fucked me up. I got a lot of shit I need to deal with, and that’s nobody’s problem but mine. As a man, I gotta stand on the fucked-up decisions I made and how they affected the people I care about.”

Gianni sat with his arm resting along the back of the couch, stroking his chin in deep thought.

“I didn’t know shit about y’all fucking around.”

“I know. Now. I’m not fucking with Kyerra no more.”
