“I hope it’s some real fly shit. I have a standard to uphold at these events.”

“I guess you’re just going to have to trust me,” I replied, using his words against him.

“That’s comical coming from yo’ ass.”

I wasn’t sure if it was worth mentioning, but I thought about Ross’s advice earlier. There was no room for secrets in a marriage. I learned my lesson the first time, and I wasn’t risking it.

“Is your family having money problems?”

Gianni’s neck craned slowly, looking at me like I was insane. I didn’t know how much Gianni made, but I could tell by how he and the rest of his family lived they made a lot. Solana thought the same thing until she got a rude awakening today.

“Why are you asking me that?”

“It’s a valid question considering we just had a child, and I don’t have a job. We went shopping today, and the saleswoman mentioned Solana’s delinquent account. Her card declined, so I paid, but I was curious.”

“Thanks for taking care of it, but we’re good, Lo.”

“Define good?”

“Good enough that you don’t have to worry.”

I could see his wheels spinning. Something was going on, but I was learning to trust my husband. He said we were fine, so I had to believe that as I wiped the imaginary sweat from my forehead. “Good, because I’d hate to leave you for Chauncy. I didn’t give up my life to move here and be broke.”

“If that motherfucka is working for me, how much money does he have?” Gianni asked, stealing a glance at Serenity discovering her toes.

“I’m joking. Relax,” I chuckled at Gianni kneeling in front of where I was seated.

“You better be. I love you, Hailo.”

“I love you more.”

This man was everything I’d prayed for. Now I found myself praying that I didn’t mishandle it.

“You know, if you answer it, she will stop calling,” Sky advised, sitting the drink down in front of me before resting her elbows on the bar.

Glancing at my screen, Kyerra’s name flashed across it. She had been calling and texting nonstop, but we didn’t have shit to talk about.

As much as it pained me to admit it, Mack was right. I don’t know what Kyerra’s end game was, but I was no longer interested in being a part of her plan.

“She’ll get tired of being ignored at some point.”

“You can do better than your cousin’s ex-girlfriend anyway,” Sky advised.

Despite Kyerra being mine first, I didn’t argue the point. We were a fling that I grew attached to. I wasn’t sure if I loved Kyerra or was just so angry with everybody around me.

“No sugar-coating shit with you.”

“Nope, you’re going to get it straight up. Whether you like it or not.”

“I hear you, Sky.”

“Good. Have you spoken to Gi?”

“Here and there.”

“Have you apologized?” She asked with a raised brow, and I didn’t bother answering. “You need to.”

“You get a man and suddenly have all the answers.”
