"And sober. Get pissy drunk and start acting dumb, and it's over for your ass," I warned because, unfortunately, it had happened before. Sol didn't get out much, so she tended to overdo it when she did.

"Relax, Gi. It'll be a night to remember. I'm off to go shopping. See you!" Solana pranced out of the kitchen, and I knew I would regret giving in.

Being the only girl in the family was challenging. As a woman, she required protection, especially at parties. Solana being the free-spirited person she was, hated that she couldn't live by the same rules as us.

"What is Solana so happy about?" My mother, Xora, asked, entering the kitchen after brushing past Sol in the hallway.

"She pressed me into taking her to some party."

"Solana has been suckering you into things since the two of you were kids," My mother shook her head as she approached the counter to prepare her morning tea. "Take care of her, Gianni."

"I always do. Happy Anniversary." Dumping my plate into the sink, I kissed her cheek before meeting my father in his office. I lived alone but still spent much time at my parents' house because that's where all the cooked meals were.

"Good morning."

"Morning, son. Can you meet up with your cousins? An arms dealer thinks they can move into our town and do business without our consent. Here's everything you need for now," My father, Ross, extended the folder across his desk. Flipping through the pages inside, he continued. "Your mother and I will be out, but if it's any emergency, you know how to reach me. Your Uncle Everett is on standby."

"Relax, man. I can handle you being gone for a day. Are you sure you’re ready to step down?”

“Believe me. I’m very ready, and so is Ev.”

“What about Uncle Lucas?” I asked, referring to Solana and Tyson’s father. He was the middle child, while my father was the oldest and Everett the youngest.

“We can’t step down until one of you are ready to take over.”

“I can’t speak for anybody but me. I’m good.”

"I also need you to visit Saul.”

"I'm on it. What do you have planned this year?"

"We're going sailing on the yacht and spending the night at Navarro," he groaned, getting it out of his system now.

"Such a fuckin' sucker," I chuckled because he hated being out on the expensive yacht Xora swindled him into purchasing. He always got seasick, but time and time again, he put himself through torture for her happiness.

"A man sacrifices for the woman in his life. One day, you'll understand."

"It won't be any day soon."

"Believe me, son. I said the same thing. Now, look at me."

"Soft as cotton."

"Only when it comes to her, so watch your mouth," he chuckled because he knew it was true.

"Enjoy your anniversary, and make sure you pack the Dramamine." He flipped me the bird as I rose to my feet to head out and meet my cousins.

The business didn't stop because Ross took the day off to romance his wife. My father and uncles were training us to take over the reins. They have been delegating more tasks between Mack, Tyson, and myself lately. They weren't like old heads who couldn't let go. They were ready and willing, so they could relax and enjoy the fruits of their labor.

"Wassup," I greeted, slapping hands with Tyson and Macklen, who hated his full name.

"Ain't shit. I just finished getting up with Pops. It's some new arms dealer in town. He's making some noise trying to move shit without our blessing."

"They don't want to pay that fee," Mack chimed in with what we already knew. "Gotta pay to play."

"We're hitting that party at the Ferguson this weekend," I announced.

"Sol already asked about that shit. I'm not going," Tyson replied, but I wasn't asking, unlike Sol.
