"You are," I asserted.

"Says who?" Tyson asked, rearing back.

"They'll be at the party on Friday, so we're all going,” I replied, ignoring the invitation to his pissing contest. The majority of anything coming out of Tyson’s mouth was to get under your skin, troll, or both.

"Solana needs to stay home," Tyson asserted as only a brother could.

"Sol will be fine. We'll make sure of it. Besides, we're just scoping out the scene. Ain't shit popping off yet."

"Anything else, your highness?" Tyson asked, causing Mack to chuckle.

Solana was the oldest grandchild, but being a female put her out of the running to make decisions. Tyson often felt entitled, so we butted heads a lot. Mack claimed we were too similar, but I didn't see it. Regardless at the end of the day, we were family. We argued, but we always got over it.

"Go get some pussy. I need you to be in a better mood this weekend."

"Shit, I could say the same about you coming in here ordering motherfuckas around."

"Take care of your boy's ego. I'm out."

"Where are you going?" Mack asked.

"I got something to handle," I announced, heading for the door so I could finish handling the things on my to-do list.

Hopping in the car, I drove over to Saul's office. True, we ran the city but were smart enough to know we couldn't be everything to everybody. We strategically put people in place to oversee things and be our eyes and ears. Saul was one of those people, but unfortunately, the money hadn't reached its destination, and he had to answer for that.

Saul was in a meeting, but I didn’t let that stop me from taking a seat. I scrolled through my phone to kill time when the door finally opened.

"Gianni," Saul paused in the doorway of his office, likely because I was sitting at his desk with my feet kicked up. "To what do I owe the pleasure.”

"It's about five million of them. Take your pick." My response alerted him to why I was here, and I could see him struggling to swallow the lump in his throat.

"May I?" he asked, standing in front of me. I paused for a moment before a friendly smile appeared, and I rose to allow him access to his computer.

"The education department never received the funds my father asked you to send over weeks ago."

"I can assure you there has to be an error."

"Has to be. Five million dollars doesn't just vanish."

Saul began pecking at his keys while I sat across from his desk. I usually didn't let people waste my time, but I allowed him to search for something that wasn't there. I would've respected him more if he owned up to the bullshit he did. It wouldn't have changed the course of my actions, but the truth was more respectable.

"Somebody as organized as you can’t find something. I'm shocked."

"We've been swamped lately, so I haven't had time.”

"You’ve had time to forge records to make it look like you’ve done something you didn’t. Dr. Taylor called last week asking about it because she hadn't received anything."

"That has to be an error. It says it was sent on the fifth,"

"I thought the same thing when I heard because you're always on top of shit. It had to be a simple miscommunication, so I went digging, and not only did you hide that five million, you've been skimming money from housing and health."

"That is insane! You can't go around making accusations like that with no proof."

"Of course not. I'm not the sloppy type but good thing I don't answer to you." Pulling my gun from my back, I aimed it at his forehead.

"O-o-kay w-wait!" he began stammering, putting his hands up as if bullets wouldn't penetrate them. "Let's talk about this, Gianni! I've known you your whole life. Your father is like a brother to me. We can-."

I ended the conversation with a bullet to the brain. Saul's body fell back into his chair as I headed for the door. Tapping on Jackie's door, I pushed it open. She was likely about to fuss at somebody for walking into her office until she saw my face. Jackie rose to her feet, wearing a lustful smile taking in the view before her.
