After kicking it with my parents for a while and my mom expressing happiness would be at Sunday dinner, I headed out. I tried to check on Hailo, but she didn’t reply, so I pulled up the security camera, searching each room until I located Hailo in my bedroom on the phone with somebody, likely venting about how much she hated me.

Now that I knew she was good, I pulled out to meet with Ty and Mack for a few drinks. We were going to the strip club tonight. Ass and titties were the best cure for all the shit crowding my mind, especially since I wasn’t getting any. The least I could do was imagine.

“Hey Gi,” Skylar greeted me as I approached the bar. “What can I do for you?”

“Are Ty and Mack here yet?”

“Yup, in their usual spot, and Ty is already acting a goddamn fool,” she replied, shaking her head.

“Slow him up tonight. Don’t be making his shit extra strong like you usually do.” Alcohol didn’t change me, but Tyson was a different story. He became louder and more annoying than usual. I wasn’t in the mood tonight, so I needed Skylar not to be so heavy-handed.

“And mess up my tips? I think not.”

“Damn, it’s like that?”

“Absolutely. My money comes first. Besides, his drunk ass will notice, and I don’t have time for him tonight.”

“I’ll handle Tyson.” I peeled off a few bills and slid them to her. Skylar was the homie and served us regularly, so I knew she would look out.

“Good luck trying,” she joked.

“Everything set for Mack’s party?”

“Yup, but you know he’s going to curse you out, right?”

“Probably,” I chuckled because he said he didn’t want a party. Mack was low maintenance, and partying wasn’t his vibe, but birthdays were a big deal in this family. “He’ll be aite.”

“You better hope his antisocial ass shows up,” Sky alternated glances between me and the drink she was making. “Are you okay?”

“Why wouldn’t I be?”

“Your eyes look heavy. Stressed in a way I’m not used to seeing on you.”

“I’m good, Mama Sky.”

“You’re not, but I’ll send you over something that will make you feel better.”

“Thanks, Sky.”

“Welcome, Gi.”

Skylar had been working here for two years now. Her job title was bartender, but she knew Paradise’s Dream inside and out. Nothing went on in here that she wasn’t aware of, for better or worse. The moment I reached our section, Sky’s warning made sense. It was already crawling with women who knew we blew money fast whenever we came out.

“What’s motherfuckin good?” Tyson yelled with four titties in his face.

“I’m chilling, bro,” I laughed, sitting across from him.

“Aye, go show my brother some love. He’s not as fine as me, but he still gets bitches, so he must look good,” The Latino woman licked her lips and wasted no time standing to her feet. She adjusted the triangle top that barely covered her nipples, hoping to entice me, but she wasn’t my type. Nor did she seem offended at how Tyson snapped his fingers in her face like she was a dog. It was crazy what women would accept to get close to us.

“I’m good right now, baby girl.” I put my hand up, letting her know to stay where she was.

“I thought you were going to stand us up,” Mack announced while getting a lap dance from a woman who was more my speed, but we’d always had similar tastes.

“I’m a man of my word. I wouldn’t have said I was coming if I wasn’t.”

“What did Hailo do now?” Mack’s question caused hesitation on my part at him assuming it was Hailo when in reality, it was a cluster of things.

“Nothing.”
