“You don’t like being told what to do, and I don’t like micromanaging grown people. Make sure our shit is right next time, or this won’t be a friendly visit.”

His mischievous smirk told me he wanted to check my tone but knew his rebuttal didn’t have a leg to stand on. Quest could take it out on his brother if he wanted to be angry with someone.

“Got it, Boss,” he chuckled.

Something was up. It was in the way Quest looked at me and his sarcastic rebuttals. Heading back to my car, I called Mack on the way to the office to fill him in. After what happened to Sky, none of us could afford to put shit past anybody, especially when there was already bad blood between us.

Chapter Three

Sitting behind the desk, I scrolled on my phone until the office door flew open, causing me to sit up. Quest was calm before he left, but his thick brows were now furrowed as he pushed the door shut and locked it.

“What’s wrong?”

“Nothing.”

“Something is,” I replied, slightly panicking inside. His intense eye contact with each step and tightened lips were a dead giveaway.

It was probably the guilt of being here because if my family knew, they’d be livid. Scratch that. They’d be mortified and wage war on Quest as if he was forcing me to do something I didn’t want to.

“Nothing. It’s just business.”

“Now you’re lying to me?” I asked, reminding him of the promise we made each other during our New Year’s trip.

“We agreed that topic was off limits.” Quest’s tone softened when I parked myself between his legs.

“That was before you walked in here looking like you wanted to kill someone.” Quest didn’t reply, but the way he stared at me without blinking let me know it wasn’t off the table. “Quest.”

“What do you want me to say, Sol?”

“The truth. That’s what we promised each other, right?”

I watched his eyes wander everywhere except at me, causing the panic in my stomach to grow.

“The shit I want to say won’t make you feel any better. And if your cousin keeps coming at me crazy, I’ll handle his ass too.”

His response held too much contempt for him to state anything but facts. I knew the risk of going down this road with Quest but being with him made me delusional. The happiness he made me feel was worth it—it had to be. It was unlike anything I had ever experienced, so I ignored my heart beating against my chest erratically.

“I need you focused on handling me,” I flirted, gripping his growing manhood.

Quest tried to resist but found himself shaking his head as he smirked.

“I shouldn’t even be here with yo’ ass.”

“Then tell me to leave,” I challenged.

“I can’t. We said forever, right?”

My heart slowed to its normal rhythm as I settled back, enjoying the feel of his arms around me. Quest was worth every risk. He didn’t see me as a Meraux but the woman I was. How he looked at me made me feel strong, like I could do anything.

“Come here and let me take care of you.” Quest lifted me on the edge of his desk before freeing himself.

I licked my lips, watching him stroke his hard dick because it felt like ages since I last felt him, which is why I was here. He had been in Hammond Hills taking care of business, reducing our time together to Facetime calls that didn’t fill the void of being wrapped in his arms.

“Fuck!” I gasped, feeling his tongue swirl around my clit. “I missed you so much.” I moaned.

“I missed the way you taste,” Quest declared, and it showed in the way he took his time with my pussy.

After bringing in the New Year together and being able to have him whenever I wanted for seventy-two hours, it spoiled me rotten. Now we were back home, hiding in plain sight. Unbeknownst to everybody except Gianni, I wasn’t a virgin. He always kept my secrets, but I was afraid to share this one with him. There had been bad blood between Quest’s family and mine ever since Sky got shot.
