Vincent wrapped his arms around me, jarring me from the pain of missing my son.

“You’re not having second thoughts, are you?”

“No,” I sighed, “I’m happy.”

“But?” Vince probed.

I smiled at how well he knew me. Years had passed between us, but it didn’t feel like it.

“I just miss Bryson.”

“Would you like me to talk to Tyson?” He asked because that was the only thing he could do to help the situation.

“No!” I rushed out so quickly that I almost choked, “It’s just an adjustment. Tyson has been cordial, and I want to keep it that way.”

“Would you tell me if he wasn’t?”

“I can handle Tyson.”

“I know you’re used to handling things on your own, but that’s not how I do things, Ky. We’re a team.”

“I know, and I appreciate it.” Pecking my lips to end the conversation before I said something I couldn’t take back. I loved Vincent and his way of thinking. It’s what attracted me to him then and now, but Tyson was off-limits, at least for now.

“I’m going to breakfast with Sky and then pick up Bryson.”

“Enjoy your day. I won’t be home until later. I have a busy day. Somebody’s gotta work to give you the world.”

“I love you.” I spit the words out so fast I shocked myself and him with the blank expression on his face. I wished I could take those three words back, but I couldn’t, and now they were floating around the kitchen. “I’m sorry, I just-.”

Vincent’s lips crashed into mine, saving me because my brain was mush, and I had no idea what I was about to say.

“Relax. I love you too.”

“Thank you for everything.”

“Always Love.” Vince kissed my forehead and gathered himself to go into the office.

After finishing my morning coffee, I dressed up for my date with Sky. She reached out and wanted to catch up since it had been a while.

Pleased that the outfit in my head looked as good on my body, I did a little twirl in the mirror. Now that I wasn't working, I didn’t have much going on. Most of my days were spent in leggings and T-shirts.

Grabbing my purse, I walked out and drove to meet Sky. I was looking forward to having some much-needed girl time. Riding past the construction site, I noticed the stadium was in full swing, thanks to my help. I was honest and upfront with Vince about the situation and what I gained from it. Keeping secrets had never worked well for me, so I tried a different approach this time.

“Hot mama!” Sky yelled, serving as my cheerleader upon arrival.

“Girl, please, that is you! You look so good. Your skin is glowing!”

“Thank you, boo. How have you been?” Sky asked, pulling me in for a hug.

I thought about her question momentarily because it felt like the first time someone had genuinely asked in a while. “I’m maintaining.”

“Some days, that’s half the battle, babe. Come on, I need a drink so you can tell me all about your new man.”

Skylar grabbed my hand and dragged me inside the restaurant. The waiter quickly escorted us to a table on the patio and left us to browse the menu.

“I was sure by now Tyson had told everything,” I replied to Skylar’s earlier comment now that we were alone and settled at our table.

“He hasn’t said anything,” Skylar shrugged.
