Quest led the way to the reception hall doors and waited for our cue from the wedding coordinator. I couldn’t wait to see my vision of the reception come together.

As I walked into the reception venue, my breath caught in my throat, and my eyes widened in wonder. Carol had brought my fairytale to life. The room was a magical tapestry of colors and whimsical decorations. Tables were draped in elegant hues of silver and blue with larger-than-life centerpieces. Tears welled up in my eyes as I took in the beauty.

"Ladies and gentlemen, it’s time to give a thunderous round of applause for the newlyweds, Solana and Quest Cassidy! So, without further ado, let's make some noise and show them all the love they deserve on this incredible night!” The DJ announced.

The room erupted in applause as we entered the reception hall, surrounded by friends and family. The energy was alive and vibrant. The dance floor was a sea of twirling dresses and well-dressed suits, each step echoing the harmony of our newfound unity. Glancing around, I could see the faces of friends and family, their smiles reflecting the joy that mirrors my own.

It was overwhelming, soaking in the warmth of the well-wishes as Quest and I twirled around the dance floor.

“May I cut in?” Tyson asked, approaching Quest and me.

“No.” I started to walk off because he really had me fucked up kidnapping my husband, but Tyson grabbed my hand. Gentle yet firm.

“Please. I come in peace. I promise,” Tyson smiled, and against my better judgment, I agreed.

Quest didn’t move until I did, kissing my lips before moving around the room. Tyson’s palm flashed to the ceiling, waiting for me to accept. I was still angry with him, and he knew it.

“Congratulations.”

“That’s really how you want to start this conversation?”

“If it’s, I’m sorry you’re looking for, I can’t give you that.” Scoffing, I pulled away because nobody would ruin my night—him included. “I didn’t mean it like that.”

“Then how exactly did you mean it?”

“I was worried about your safety. We shield you from a lot of the shit that goes on. How dark it can get, so I don’t expect you to understand. As your brother, I can’t apologize for questioning whether his intentions were pure.”

“That’s the thing you didn’t just question him. You went overboard, and not to mention, you were rude as fuck to me. What happened to our pact to stick together no matter what and be better than our parents?”

“You’re right, and for that, I’m sorry.”

“But?” I sneered.

Tyson smirked at my refusal to cave. “No, but. I could’ve handled things better.” My feet stopped moving, and my brows shot up. “Maybe I was projecting my own shit with Kyerra on you and Quest. I could’ve handled things differently. I am sorry for hurting you, Solana.”

The pain of seeing Quest beaten and tied to a chair didn’t want me to forgive Tyson, but I felt the ice around my heart melting. He was trying his best to navigate the hand he was dealt, some of which he caused on himself and others caused by taking on other people’s problems. I understood the hell Tyson was in, so I decided to cut him some slack, but this would be the last time.

“I accept your apology because I know your heart. You’re a good person who’s been dealt a shitty hand, but at some point, you can’t use that as a crutch.”

“I know. I’m working on getting my shit together.”

“How are you doing with everything?” I asked.

“With the divorce?” I nodded, and he stared into the distance, likely trying to figure out how he felt. “It hurts. I feel like I failed my son, but he deserves happy parents.”

“You deserve to be happy too. Otherwise, you’ll end up like them.”

My parents showed up, not because they wanted to support me, but people would talk if they didn’t. So, they were both here, smiling past their pain and watching the clock.

Tyson chuckled, “Hell no.”

“Exactly. Maybe spend some time alone getting to know Tyson and loving Bryson.”

“You become someone’s wife and magically have all the answers, huh?”

“I always give good advice. You just never come to me to find out.”

“Maybe I’ll work on that.”
