“Thanks, Sky.”
“You’re welcome. Today is going to be perfect.”
“I couldn’t have done any of this without you guys. Seriously.” I promised myself I wasn’t going to cry today, but somehow, they were bubbling on my lashes. “Most of my life, I felt alone, like an outcast. Tyson, Mack, and Gianni all had each other. Then there was me. Alone, but now I have people, too. I love you guys.”
“I’m so proud of you. You’re far from the annoying brat I met when I first moved here.” Hailo smiled while Sky snickered.
“Gi was all I had, then you came along, and I didn’t have him either, but sometimes blessings don’t look how you imagine,” I explained.
“How the hell did you think we’d look?” Sky asked, dripping sarcasm batting her lashes.
“Not as fun as you two. I just knew they’d all settle down with?—”
“Brats like you?” Hailo, finishing my sentence, had my mouth hung open. “That’s payback for coming at my marriage hoe.”
“Well, I wasn’t wrong because Gi has definitely turned you into fuckin’ brat.” Flipping her my middle finger, we all laughed.
My life didn’t look anything like I imagined, but it was for the best. I married my best friend, and considering all we went through for it, we deserved to celebrate. Arriving at the venue, Hailo led the way to the dressing room, and each of them helped me into my dress.
The sequined one-shoulder, long-sleeved dress with a sweeping train fit me like a glove. The high split added an air of sexiness to the elegant gown.
“You look.” Hailo covered her mouth, unable to finish her sentence, staring at me.
“Baby, you are wearing that!” Sky exclaimed.
“Thank you.”
“Are you ready for your man?” Hailo asked.
I nodded because my nerves took over. Quest and I didn’t have a wedding, but it was important for me to have one and share that moment with him. Just the two us the same way we got married.
“Don’t be in here being nasty. We have a timeline to set.”
“We’re not you and Gi I poked.
“You should aspire to be this happy.”
“You are so far gone it’s sickening. Let’s go,” Sky chuckled, ushering her out of the room.
I didn’t know what to do with myself waiting on my husband. The doors opened, and he froze, causing me to do the same. Quest didn’t do anything expected of him, so he opted for a forest green tux instead of traditional black. I was skeptical at first, but he looked edible, standing across the room.
“Say something. Please,” I finally muttered because the silence had my knees buckling. I had never been watched more intently than at this moment.
“Shit, I don’t know what to say other than I love you.”
Those three simple words made me giggle. Or maybe it was his glossy eyes, overcome with emotion, that made me even more nervous. From where I stood, Quest always knew what to say. When I was stressed. Whenever my thoughts starting spiraling. Or when my attitude needed to be checked. He had all the answers, but today, he was speechless, walking across the room with his hand covering his mouth.
“I’ve never experienced a connection so strong that I’d do anything for it. I didn’t know how this would work, and I didn’t really care, which isn’t like me. I always have a plan, but after that first night together, I knew I had to have you.”
“Trust me. I got us. Today. Tomorrow and every day after that. No matter what. I got us. Thank you for letting me have you.”
I exhaled a deep sigh while dabbing the corner of my eyes. Quest was thanking me, but the pleasure was indeed all mine.
“Wow, way to come in here and ruin my makeup.” I laughed, trying to fight back the tears because I had never loved anyone the way I loved this man. “But you’re giving me too much credit.” His gaze narrowed in confusion because he clearly didn’t see it that way. “You saved me. You gave me happiness and confidence, and most of all, you made me feel safe. Things I had been searching for all of my life, I found in you.”
Just feeling his hands sliding around my waist made my senses spin.
“Let’s go party, Mrs. Cassidy.” His kiss was slow and passionate before his hand grabbed mine so we could prepare to make our grand entrance.
