“Girl fuck you and your brother.”

“I thought so. Come on, Sol, we need to find us some men tonight,” Denim said, looping her arm inside mine as we walked through the parking lot to the entrance.

“It’s girls' night, D. Fuck them nigga’s,” Niyomi chimed in behind us.

“The D is what I'm looking for!” Denim joked, and I couldn’t help but laugh.

That was until our feet hit the plush carpet, and I lifted my head from laughing so hard at Denim. Watching Bella grin in Quest’s face had my nostrils flaring like a bull. He assured me that Bella was his past and I was his future, but the smirk on his face was presently pissing me off.

“Are you okay?” Denim asked, still clinging to my arm.

“I need another drink.”

“My girl!” Denim pumped her fist while we walked to the bar and ordered drinks.

While waiting, Quest noticed me and smiled in my direction. It took everything in me not to roll up my middle finger, but that would only bring unnecessary attention to us. Bella’s mouth was moving a mile a minute until she finally said something that required a response. Quest was too busy eye fucking me to do so. Bella turned around to see what could be tearing his eyes away from her breast, spilling out of her dress.

Her disposition made me smile before turning to Denim. “Come on. I don’t know about finding your husband, but I can win you some money.”

“Let’s do it then!” Ignoring Quest,

We hit the main floor while the casino lights flickered and buzzed with vibrant energy as I coached Denim on the slots, hoping to win big.

“How do you know all this?”

“My dad. He’s been gambling since before I was born,” I chuckled because I was never interested in gambling, but he was, and it seemed like the only way to get his attention when I was younger.

“Damn, I lost again!” Denim yelled.

“That’s okay. We’re going to increase the bet.”

“What? Why?” She turned around, confused by my logic.

“The goal is to win more from a larger bet. Just trust me.”

Denim was hesitant because she didn’t come from a family like mine. I was aware of my privilege, but I knew what I was doing. She finally allowed to increase the bet. While she worked on the slots, I checked my phone.

Q: I want to see you tonight.

Me: Fuck you.

I locked my phone, vowing not to respond despite what he said. Besides, there wasn’t a story I could sell to sneak out anyway. My phone dinged again, and I couldn’t control my jealous impulses.

Q: I wasn’t asking.

Me: That’s the problem. You can’t order me around.

Q: I want to see you tonight, Princess.

Quest repeating his opening line was his way of telling me he didn’t give a fuck. He wanted what he wanted, and tonight, that was me. Underneath my attitude, I wanted to see him, but I wasn’t giving in tonight.

Hailo joined us on the slots while Niyomi and Sky dipped off to get something to eat. I had even forgotten about Bella grinning in Quest’s face, enjoying my night with the girls.

“Bitch, you better take it easy before your ass is too hung over for dinner tomorrow,” Hailo pointed out.

“It ain’t like I’ll be missing much,” I sneered, taking another sip of my cocktail.

Every week, being the lone ranger at dinner was just a reminder of what I didn’t have. Having the girls helped, but I wasn’t exactly jumping for joy about Sunday dinner.
