“I would expect you to know me better than that.”

“It doesn’t matter how well you know someone. People change every day,” Morgan added, locking eyes with me. Bella didn’t understand his jab at Solana, but I caught it loud and clear.

"I need to know everything you saw.”

Bella hesitated for a moment before taking a seat across from Morgan.

"I was there with some friends, just having a good time. We were near the slot machines when I noticed a group of guys. They weren’t playing the slots. They were sitting, and then Joi went over to talk to one of them. He dismissed her like she was in his way or something.”

“What did Joi say when she came back?”

“Nothing. I asked what he said, and she said fuck him.”

“Then what?”

“Then I went to the bathroom. On the way out, I heard them talking in the hallway. I couldn’t distinguish what they said other than ‘we have to get in and out’. When I opened the door, whomever he was talking to was gone.”

“Did he say anything to you?”

“No. He just stood in the hallway like he wanted to say something but didn’t.”

"Do you remember anything about them, like their appearance or distinctive features?"

“He has a tattoo on his wrist, a snake or something. And the guy I recognized had a scar on his cheek.”

“Anything else?”

Bella’s eyes grew distant as if she were arguing with herself about whether she wanted to share.

“The one with the scar, I saw him when I was running out, and he saw me too. The way he looked at me, Quest.” Bella shivered as if she was reliving that moment. “It was like he was daring me to keep my mouth shut. I’m scared.”

Morgan stood up and motioned me aside. Bella sank deeper on the couch, running her fingers through her hair as I followed Morgan.

“She can’t stay here,” Morgan said, regurgitating Bella’s fears.

“What are you telling me for?” I asked defensively.

Morgan craned his neck around me to steal a glance at Bella. “Shit, as fine as she is, I thought you’d want her to stay with you.”

“You didn’t think that shit.”

“It’s your idea. You figure it out.” I demanded.

“She can’t come to my crib. Where am I supposed to fuck bitches?” Morgan asked, causing me to shake my head because there wasn’t a smirk or smile. He was serious.

“Nigga you’re worried about pussy, and our shit is missing. Get your priorities together.”

“Says the nigga with in-house pussy. Opp’ pussy at that.”

I cut my eyes at Morgan before ordering Bella to pack what she needed. My words animated her features with excitement. She hurried to her bedroom, thinking this would somehow lead her back to my bed. That spot was taken, but I would keep Bella safe, especially since she gave us more information than anybody at the casino.

Bella returned dressed casually in a black sweatsuit. One small bag was thrust on her shoulder while the other sat at her feet. After a final walk-through, we climbed in the car and headed for our next destination.

The drive felt like old times when Bella and I would ride out, and Morgan would tag along because he wanted to do everything I did. Pulling into the parking lot sucked the air out of the car as Bella shifted toward me.

“A hotel,” she frowned.

“Damn, you act like we put you at the Red Roof Inn?” I joked.
