Dialing Bella’s number, she answered frantically.

“Quest?”

“What’s so important?” I asked, getting straight to the point.

“I think I saw who robbed the casino—one of them, anyway. I’m scared, Quest.”

“What did you say?”

“I think I saw him,” she repeated.

“Where are you?”

“At home, but I need to get the fuck out of here.”

“Stay put. Morgan and I are on the way.”

“Thank you, Quest.”

“Welcome.”

Ending the call, I wasn’t doing this shit for Bella. I needed to know who had my fuckin’ money and fast. Jogging inside, everybody was scattered around the casino floor. Some were in tears, still shaken up from the ordeal.

Most of them had the same story. Nobody saw anything until it was too late. Three masked individuals got in and got out with my fuckin’ money, and I wanted it back.

“What’s next?” Morgan asked, sparking a blunt as we walked across the parking lot.

“We’re going to see Bella.”

His brow winged down as he released a cloud of smoke, “For what?”

“She might know something, and we need all the help we can get.”

Morgan shrugged, “Fuck it. Let’s do it.”

Holding the blunt between his lips, he tugged the handle and joined me in the car. The blunt loosened Morgan enough to make small talk while driving to Bella’s apartment.

“You need me to stay in the car?” Morgan asked, wearing a sly grin.

“Iono, how you have time to joke when our money is missing,” I complained, climbing out of the car.

“Shit, we can’t do anything more than we are right now.” Morgan shrugged, lightly jogging to catch up with me, “Gotta’ do something to keep from offing motherfucka’s.”

I got his logic but wasn’t shit funny right now, especially as my knuckles tapped Bella’s door. This was the last place I expected to be tonight, but if she could help solve the problem, I was here for it.

I heard her footsteps near the other side. They were faint but audible if you were paying attention, followed by silence.

“It’s me. Open up,” I yelled, and after a brief pause, the locks turned, and the door slowly peeled open. The air was tense with unresolved emotions as she slowly looked up at me. “Are you going to make us stand out here or what?”

Bella sucked her teeth and opened the door wider. Once it latched, I nodded, and Morgan cornered Bella between the wall and the door. I didn’t think Bella was trying to set us up, but after tonight’s events, I couldn’t put shit past anyone—her included.

“What the fuck! Really Quest!” Bella yelled as I walked through the kitchen and down the hallway. With my gun in hand, I checked every room, confirming that it was only the three of us before joining them back in the living room. “If you thought I was trying to set you up, why did you even show up?”

“You can never be too careful,” I explained, but she was raging in the middle of the floor, so my words went in one ear and out of the other.

“I’m not feeling so forthcoming anymore. Get out!” Bella yelled as Morgan plopped on the couch.

“Cut the dramatics. The casino just got hit. What do you expect?” I asked.
