“I’ve had a meeting with my mother’s accountants and lawyers, and we have agreed to pay for your hospital care,” I say, still holding her hand. “Every cent of it.”

Emma’s mom shakes her head.

“You don’t have to do that,” she whispers, her voice trembling with emotion.

“I do,” I say. “And there’s no point stopping it now; the decision has already been made. We’re paying for everything. And we are also getting you out of here and moving you to the best private treatment center in the country.”

“You are?”

“You’re going to be just fine, Mrs. Tucker.”

Emma comes and sits next to me.

“You’re really doing this?” she asks.

“Yes,” I reply.

“Thank you, August.”

“No, thank you both. The Penmaynes have been such... dicks to you both. This is a modest way to right our past wrongs.”

Emma’s mom pats my hand and turns her face away. She’s trying to hide her tears. She’s a proud, stoic woman.

“Thank you,” she whispers quietly. “Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.”

Emma kisses my cheek and whispers in my ear.

“Thank you.”

“I really need a glass of wine,” I grandly announce the moment we step into August’s penthouse.

The doctor smirks.

“I can help arrange that,” he replies, leaping to the cellar door with a spring in his step.

I make my way to his balcony overlooking the city. I lean against the railing and close my eyes as the last moments of the day’s sun warmly fall on my face.

This has got to be the best spot in the city for sunsets...

“Here’s your wine, your majesty.”

I open my eyes to August offering me a large glass. I blow him a kiss and take it. The taste is cold and refreshing.

“Just what I needed,” I say, turning back to the stunning view.

From behind, August tenderly wraps his muscular arms around my waist. I feel his lips gently brush against my neck as he slowly kisses me.

I lean my head back into him and his touch and I moan lightly.

“I really want something from you,” he whispers into my ear. His breath forces a pleasurable tingle down the length of my spine.

“What, August?”

“I really want to dance with you.”
