I don’t know what it is exactly, but I want more from my life than just brushing toilets all day.

I take in another deep breath and plunge back down to cleaning again. There’s no time to rest when there’s a full day of work to be done. I scrub around the outside of the porcelain bowl until I’m cleaning the filthy piping behind.

And I must be scrubbing a bit too hard...

Because the pipe bursts.

In my freaking face.

Unspeakable things from the darkest depths of the toilet world spray with unrelenting force into my nose and mouth and all over my hair.

It. Is. Revolting.

Yuck. Yuck. Yuck. So much for tying it back.

I let out a scream as the watery junk hits me and I jump up, running out of the restroom in shock and horror as I try not to focus on what said junk might contain.

I need to call the plumber. I need to call the plumber. I need to call the plumber. I need a freaking shower.

Safely outside the restroom and the explosive radius, I wipe my eyes so I can see again.

And who’s standing in front of me other than August Penmayne?

Him again?

“Having fun?” he asks, leisurely taking in my disgusting appearance with an amused look. His glasses balancing on his nose make him seem like he’s mocking me in some kind of snobby, smart way. I am incensed by his look, and also – secretly – at how damn attractive he is.

I hold back a roar. “I’m having the time of my life, thank you very much.”

I find my cheeks blushing underneath all the toilet juice. Once again - on the same freaking day - August has busted my sorry ass in the most humiliating scenario. Unlike what I’ve been commanded to do, I am very much being seen and very much being heard.

This is not going well, isn’t it?

“I think you need a plumber,” he suggests, nodding at the mess on my face.

I roll my eyes. “Oh, gee. Thanks. I wasn’t thinking about that at all. Didn’t even cross my mind. Thank you for that pearl of wisdom.”

“Just offering solutions, Emma Tucker.”

I cross my arms.

“You want to help me properly and put your head down the toilet with me? That’ll be a solution that would actually be supportive.”

“Thank you for the kind offer,” he replies. “But I’m a bit busy at the moment.”

“Yeah? Schedule is full? No time to scrub toilets for someone so high and mighty as you?”

August smirks.

“My calendar is completely full of high and mighty tasks, but I can check with my personal assistant.”

I snort. “Well, thank you for the helpful solution. I’ll take it from here, plumber boy.”

He really is quite handsome up close, isn’t he? Those eyes. That nerdy-slash-muscular thing he’s got going on with the glasses and the broad shoulders...

My eyes dart down to what he’s holding in his hands. A biology textbook.

Oh, so he’s a smart boy? Well, he does have smart-ass comments to always make, so it ain’t that surprising.
