Roll my shoulders.

I crouch into position.

I…lock it down and focus on the game.

But all I can think is that maybe it’s not rushing if I’m finally ready for it.

* * *

Roxie lost her battle with sleep halfway through the third period, so Dan and Stefan took her home.

I’ve just finished with my post-game shots, exercise, and stretches, and now I’m packing up and heading out.

Only…my best friends have other ideas.

They’re on either side of the hallway as I come out of the locker room, arms crossed, mulish expressions in place, and I know there’s no avoiding this conversation, as much as I want to.

They saw post-orgasm Brit at Book Club.

They saw Stefan at the game tonight, hanging in the hall, softly saying goodbye with Rox sleeping in his arms, her head on his shoulder.

So, I don’t bother trying to make it by them, trying to delay the inevitable.

I’ve done that enough—avoiding the discomfort, ostriching like the best of them.

“The training suite or somewhere else?” I ask.

Sara had clearly been expecting an argument because her mouth opens and closes and no words come out.

Mandy, though, recovers faster, tilting her head down the hall, turning and walking toward the training suite. I follow her without an argument, knowing that she’ll have me contained in her space soon enough and there will likely be hell to pay.

I sigh.

Know that if I was her, I’d be doing the same thing.

We’re family. They’ve given me far more space than I could have hoped for.

Now I’ve got to pay the piper.

I move into the training suite, walk over to my usual table, hopping up on the leather-covered surface and swinging my legs back and forth, back and forth as Sara strolls through the door, as Mandy closes it behind her.

They both cross over to me, Sara hopping up onto the table next to me, Mandy leaning on the one across from mine.

Boxing me in.

My mouth hitches up.

A play right out of the Nosy Brit handbook.

So, I decide not to make it hard on them.

“Stefan and I are back together.”

The words are sure, steady, but the fact that I’ve actually said them out loud has my pulse speeding up.

Sara goes still next to me.

Mandy sucks in a breath. “Brit, honey,” she begins after a moment. “He?—”
