“Sweetheart, that’s all that matters. Right now, the only thing on the menu is you.”

Her smile grew as her legs tightened around him. “I wasn’t sure if you wanted to have the pasta first…”

Reid shook his head as he lowered it so he could trail a line of kisses along the edge of her bra. “You, Ash. Just you.”

Her back arched as she hummed with appreciation. “You have me, Reid,” she whispered.

“Not yet,” he growled. “But I’m going to…”

The time for playful banter was over. It had been a hell of a day and his mind was still mildly in turmoil, but when he was with her like this, nothing else mattered.

It couldn’t.

Tomorrow there would be time to think about texts, conversations, and investigations. But he wanted one more night like this with Ashlynn where he pushed the rest of the world away and put his sole focus on her.

On them.

And maybe everything else would work itself out.

Chapter Eleven

Ashlynn had gotten up with Reid the next morning and kissed him goodbye before he had to leave for work. She stretched and yawned and felt better than she had in a while. It still bugged her that her big plans for a sexy dinner didn’t work out, but that just meant she needed to prepare in advance the next time.

In her robe, she strolled into the kitchen and tried to decide if she wanted breakfast or just coffee. It took a total of five seconds to decide that what she needed most was caffeine.

Making herself a cup of coffee, she took it out to the living room and sat down on the sofa with it and her phone. After scrolling through her emails and Instagram, she nearly spilled her coffee when the phone dinged with an incoming text.

Avery: Hey! Are you free for lunch today?

* * *

Avery: We totally need to talk.

“Uh-oh,” she murmured. “That doesn’t sound good.”

Ash: Everything okay?

* * *

Avery: Not sure yet. That’s why I want to talk to you.

Frowning, Ashlynn’s mind began to wonder at what this could be about.

Ash: Is everything okay with you and Leo? The wedding?

* * *

Avery: Ugh…I’m not doing this with you right now.

* * *

Avery: Can you meet me at the café at 1?

“Do I have a choice?” she muttered before typing her response.

Ash: That works!
