“Are you okay?” He asks from the door, and I jump. “Sorry, I didn’t mean to scare you.”

I sit down, embarrassed that he witnessed my little freak out.

“Yeah, I was just stretching after sitting all day.”

He doesn’t say anything else as he starts unpacking the food onto his desk.

“It smells amazing.”

I inhale, not realizing until this moment just how hungry I was. I ate lunch, but that was hours ago, and apparently, we worked up an appetite. God, would I love to work up an appetite with this man. No. I have to stop thinking of him like this. He’s my best friend’s dad and my boss. Nothing more. If I keep telling myself that, maybe I’ll start to believe it.

“We have egg rolls, beef and broccoli, fried rice, and shrimp lo mein.” My mouth falls open at the spread in front of us, and he laughs. “I wasn’t sure what you liked, so I got a little bit of everything.”

“You could have just asked.”

He hands me a plate, and we both start to dig in.

“Thanks for doing this. You really didn’t have to,” I say around a bite of lo mein. He’s been eating with chopsticks like a pro, but I gave up and grabbed a fork. I’m not a fan of having to work for my food.

“It’s the least I could do for making you work late.” He pauses and looks up at me, sincerity in his stare. “And for getting you fired. It was my fault, not yours.”

I sigh heavily as I grab an egg roll out of the box and dip it into sweet and sour sauce. “You honestly did me a favor. Working in a diner isn’t exactly my life goal.”

“Well, it wasn’t my intention to ruin your day. I let my own issues get in your way, and that wasn’t fair to you.”

I take a bite, savoring the greasy, crunchy goodness. Chinese is my absolute favorite, and I’d eat it for every meal if I could.

“I appreciate the apology, but no hard feelings.” I wink, realizing that I’m totally flirting with him. “Thanks to you, I’ll be able to pay my rent now.”

“I’d never let my daughter live on the street. You know I offered to buy you two a house, right?”

My mouth falls open in shock. I had no idea, but I don’t know why he’d buy a house for a stranger, even if I am his daughter’s friend.

“What? Why? I mean, I get doing that for your daughter, but why would you let me live there?”

“I knew you needed a place to live. I have a lot of money, so why not?”

I arch a brow at him. “Vain much?”

He laughs as he grabs his own egg roll. “Not vain, it’s just the truth. I have the money, and if I can help, I will.”

I’m realizing that my first impression of this man was way off. In my experience with wealthy people, they always treated me and my family like we were less than them. But Theo Kincaid isn’t like that at all. I suppose I should have known that because of his daughter. Courtney is the least selfish person I’ve ever met. She likes to show off the fact that her family has money, but she wouldn’t think twice about giving someone the shirt off her back.

“Thank you.” I wave my arm in the air. “For the job and everything. I really do appreciate it.”

“You’re welcome.” He gives me a sexy smile, then leans across his desk and swipes his thumb over my bottom lip, and my breath halts. “You had sauce on your lip.”

He sits back in his chair and sucks the sweat and sour sauce off his thumb. Holy hell. I don’t know if he was trying to turn me on, but either way, he succeeded.

“Fucking delicious.”

My eyes bug out of my head, and I squirm in my seat. My panties are suddenly soaked with need. Now, I have no doubt in my mind that he’s flirting, but what the hell do I do about it? I’ve never been one for having one-night stands, but I’d love to fuck this man out of my system. But there’s no way in hell that’s happening. It can’t happen.

He stands and walks across the room, shutting and locking the door.

Shit. Now is my chance to tell him this cannot happen.

“What… what are you doing?” I stutter to get out as I look up at him.
