“You can buy me a bottle of scotch when this is over,” he said. “I don’t need anything else. You’ve done a great job and you’ve had my back—loyalty is more important to me than almost anything else. It shows who you are as a person, you know?”

Lena was wearing the same magnificent white bikini and Mick watched all the appreciative glances she got as she hurried across the hot sand, scooping Mihalis up in her arms as they walked into the water. She was still so fucking beautiful it made his heart hurt.

“Damn, she’s a living, breathing Greek goddess,” Loren murmured, also watching Lena as he, Mick and Raegan followed them into the water. “You think I have a chance with her?”

“No!” Raegan and Mick spoke at the same time, scowling as he held up his hands in mock surrender.

“Geez, way to hurt a guy!” he grumbled. “I’m not that bad!”

“She’s my best friend’s sister,” Mick said sharply. “She’s not hook-up material, so don’t even think about it.”

“I could see myself settling down with someone that looks like that,” Loren said, his dark eyes gleaming. “I mean, her body is smokin’…”

Mick made a sound that was a cross between a snarl and a grunt. “Off-limits to you. Hear me now.”

“You gettin’ a piece already?” Loren asked, a gleam in his eyes. “You should’ve said something.”

Mick gave him a dirty look. “I said, my best friend’s sister is off-limits. Period.”

“Seems like she’s of age—that should be up to her!” Loren dove into a wave and swam out in the direction Lena and Mihalis had gone.

“You’re jealous,” Raegan said, looking at him.

He scowled. “I don’t want to see her involved with a douche like him.” He swam into the next wave, disappearing underwater and effectively ending the conversation.

Mick had dozed off on a beach chair when he felt drops of water on his arm. “Mick?” The little voice startled him awake and he looked over at Mihalis in surprise. Though he’d pronounced his name more like “meek” than Mick, he couldn’t help but smile into his big blue eyes.

“What’s up, buddy?” Mick sat up.

The boy said something Mick didn’t understand and he looked around for Lena, who was nowhere to be found.

“Where’s Thea Lena?” he asked him.

Mihalis pointed to one of the restaurants and said something else Mick didn’t understand, but now he was bouncing on his toes, looking upset.

Mick frowned. “Toilet?” he asked at last. “Do you need the toilet?”

Mihalis nodded emphatically. “Ne!” Yes!

“Okay, come on.” Mick slid his feet into flip flops and reached for the boy’s hand. They walked across the street to the closest restaurant and had just stepped inside when Lena’s laughter caught Mick’s attention. She and Raegan were talking to what looked like a couple of the waiters, obviously flirting and having a good time.

He scowled, calling out to her. “Lena!”

She looked around in surprise, glancing at Mihalis as she hurried over to them. “What’s going on?”

“You left him alone on the beach so you could come in here?” he demanded.

“No, I left him with Loren…” Her voice trailed off. “I needed to use the restroom and we ordered a couple of appetizers to bring out to the beach. I’ve been gone less than 10 minutes. Wasn’t Loren with him?”

“He woke me up because I think he has to go to the bathroom.”

Lena immediately spoke to Mihalis and then they hurried in the direction of the restrooms.

“She left him with Loren,” Raegan reiterated in annoyance. “We told him we’d be back in 15 minutes, with food, no less! Prick.”

Mick shook his head. “God, I hate that guy.”
